Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. Applicant has to approach the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority Head Office in Ghana and the, the applicant can get their application form for Transport Operators Permit or License contact link
2. Applicant has to enter all the information in the application form.
3. Applicant must make sure to carry all the necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page. (Both photocopies and originals)
4. Please refer to the fees details in the “Fees” section of this page.
5. Applicant should be physically present in the driver license office where you are requesting for international driver license.
6. Road signs and rod marking test (when the need arises).
7. If applicant passes the road signs test, the applicant will then take the last driving exam with a DVLA instructor.
8. If applicants pass the driving test with no errors, he / she then qualify for a cover note.
9. After completing and passing all the exams you are required to pay for a temporary driver’s license and is given a date to return to the authority, on the return date, the applicant must carry his/her cover note issued by the authority instructor.
10. The details to appear in your driver’s licenses will also be captured during this visit.
11. After completing all the process, the applicant is given a date to return to the authority, on the return date, the applicant must carry his/her cover note issued by the authority instructor to turn in for a driver’s license.
12. Generally, the processing time for this procedure takes 3 months.

Need for the Document

• Applicant need a Transport Operator's License if you are carrying passengers by road for hire or reward in vehicles constructed and equipped so as to be suitable for carrying nine or more passengers. "Hire or Reward" arises when you are paid for carrying passengers.
• You need an Operator's License if you want to use a vehicle over 3.5tonnes (3500kg) plated weight for the purpose of carrying of goods in conjunction with a trade or business. The license is required whether or not goods carriage is for hire or reward.
