Procedure

Apply Online

1. Applicant must go to the online website. link
2. Create a new user account.
3. Login with the applicant’s Username and Password.
4. Choose any of the forms the applicant wants to apply for (ISBN, ISSN, ISMN)
5. Make Payment for processing fee. Fee listed in the “Fees” section of this page.
6. Choose a bank or choose payment channel to make payment.
7. After a successful payment of the processing fee, the form is issued into the applicant’s account to continue with his/her ISBN/ISSN/ISMN application. These forms can be found on “Your Profile Page”.
8. Complete all details on the form.
9. Upload soft copy (ies) of the book(s).
10. Submit the form by clicking on the “Submit Button”.
11. Wait for the form to be reviewed and accepted.
12. An e-mail will be sent to the applicant shortly.
13. Request for corrections once a mistake is spotted on the sent e-mail.
14. The processing time for this procedure is 2 -5 minutes after meeting all the requirements.

Note: payment made is irreversible.

Eligibility

• Applicant must be Ghanaian publishers.
• A self-publisher is still a publisher, a publisher just apply for an ISBN like anyone else.

Fees

• 1 number -GHS. 1,500.
• 10 numbers - GHS. 10,000.
• 100 numbers - GHS. 50,000.
• 1,000 numbers - GHS. 100,000

Validity

Explain the time until which the certificate/document is valid.

Instructions

If applicants are a new publisher, his/her should apply for his/her own ISBN publisher prefix and plan to identify and circulate his/her books properly in the industry supply chain.
Some examples of types of monographic publications to which an ISBN can be assigned are:

• Printed books and pamphlets
• Braille publications
• Publications that are not intended by the publisher to be updated regularly or continued indefinitely
• Individual articles2 or issues of a particular continuing resource (but not the continuing resource in its entirely)
• Maps
• Educational/instructional films, videos and transparencies
• Audio books on cassette, or CD, or DVD (talking books)
• Electronic publications either on physical carries (such as machine readable tapes, diskettes, or CD-ROMs) or on the Internet
• Digitized copies of print monographic publications
• Microform publications
• Educational or instructional software
• Mixed media publications (where the principal constituent is text-based)

Need for the Document

• The purpose of the ISBN is to establish and identify one title or edition of a title from one specific publisher and is unique to that edition, allowing for more efficient marketing of products by booksellers, libraries, universities, wholesalers and distributors. The International Standard Book Number (ISBN) is a 10-digit number that uniquely identifies books and book-like products published internationally.

Information which might help

• ISBN is assigned to monographic publications and certain types of related products that are available to the public, whether those publications and related products are available on a gratis basis or to purchase. In addition, individual sections (such as chapters) of monographic publications or issues or articles of continuing resources that are made available separately may also use the ISBN as an identifier. With regard to the various media available, it is of no importance in what physical form the content is documented and distributed; however, each product form should be identified separately.
