ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for Fish Transfer Permit in Ghana, the applicant has to approach the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development.

  3. Applicant must obtain the application form from the MOFAD department.
  4. The applicant must fill up the application form as directed and submit it to the concerned authorities.
  5. The applicant has to make sure that he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
  6. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
  7. The applicant must provide all the required documents to the authorities for validation and also pay the requisite application fees.
  8. Submit the completed application form and pay the required application fee and submit the receipt as a proof of payment.
  9. If the application once approved and it will be forwarded to the Directorate of Fisheries Resources at the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development.
  10. The Directorate of Fisheries Resource will review and sign it after the applicant has produced a certificate from a medical officer of health stating that the fish to be exported/imported in respect of which the license is required comply with the international Healthy standards.
  11. The Directorate will also assign specialist officer to test the fish to be exported/ imported in the Laboratory for conducting the testing of fish and fishery products to support certification for quality and safety of fish and fishery products for the export and local market established, operationalised and maintained.
  12. A fish export or import permit specified shall be issued on payment of fees set out in Rules and regulation laws governing the importation and exportation of food items.
  13. Once the payments are cleared the Chief fisheries officer shall issue out a Fish import/export permit.
  14. The Chief Fisheries Officer may refuse to issue a permit for import, export. Any person aggrieved by the refusal of Chief Fisheries Officer may appeal to the Minister within 30 days from the date of refusal by way of petition stating the facts and grounds for appeal.

  • License Fee: 100,000 GHS



ValidityEdit

  • A license issued under this Act is valid for one year and expire on 31 December every year.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • A person is required to keep his/her fishing license with him/her at all times while fishing or transporting fish and must exhibit their license for inspection by any warden, department employee, guide or landowner upon request.
