Apply In-Person:
- The Exhumation Permit is issued by the authorities in the Ghana Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Office contact link
- The applicant must obtain the application form from the authorities in the AMA office.
- The application form must be filled with the necessary details.
- The applicant has to make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
- The filled application form must be submitted to the authorities in the AMA Office.
- A fee for this procedure is has to be paid as per the authority’s request.
- The prescribed fee must be paid by the applicant, and the receipt of payment must be attached with the application form.
- Submit the completed forms along with the supporting documents at the respective office for verification and processing.
- This application will be processed and the information will be verified by the AMA office.
- If the verification is successful, the notification will be sent to the applicant.
- After getting the notification from concerned authorities, the applicant can visit the office to collect their document.
- Generally, the processing time for this procedure takes 2 weeks.

- Exhumation Permit means a permit to exhume human remains or cremated remains in the form provided by the City and available at the AMA Office.

- No exhumation will proceed until an Exhumation Permit is submitted to and approved by the Cemetery Manager and all applicable fees and charges have been paid. The District’s responsibility during the process of uncovering of a casket, urn, or other container will end at the point where the soil is sufficiently excavated to permit access to the remains for removal by the attending Funeral Agency.
