Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Entertainment License in Ghana, the applicant has to approach the gaming commission office.
2. Address and contact details can be found in the following Contact link
3. Applicant has to enter all the information the application form.
4. Applicant must make sure to carry all the necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page. (Both photocopies and originals)
5. Applicant should attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the applicant from while submitting it at the office.
6. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
7. The completed application form must submit to the respective office.
8. Based on the reports received from the security agencies and the commission having satisfied it with the fit and proper test, a entertainment license shall either be granted or refused.
9. Generally, the processing time for this procedure 2 weeks.

Need for the Document

• Unless exempted, a public entertainment or arts entertainment licence is required under the Public Entertainments (PEA) Act, Chapter 257, for any entertainment that is provided in any place to which the public or any class of public has access, whether gratuitously or otherwise.
• Entertainment license are just one example of business licenses and governmental permits that business owners are often required to possess.

• The gaming industry in Ghana was previously regulated under the Lotteries and Betting Act, 1960 (Act31), the Football Pools Authority Act 1961, (Act 78) the Gambling Machines Decree 1973 (NRCD 174) and Casino Licensing Decree 1975 (NRCD 320).Until the establishment of the Gaming Commission, the Ministry of the Interior had oversight responsibility for the regulation of Casinos and other games of chance.
• The Gaming Act further states that ,where there is hindrance to the acquisition of property, the property may be acquired for the Commission under the State Property and Contracts Act, 1960 (C.A.6) or the State Lands Act, 1962 (Act 125) and the costs shall be borne by the Commission.
