Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. Applicant can apply for Certificate of Identity by applying to the Comptroller-General of Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) office.
2. Address and contact details can be found in the following Contact link
3. The Applicant has to approach the Ghana Immigration Service centre and the applicant can get their application form.
4. Fill out the application form and other relevant documents.
5. The applicant has to make sure that he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
6. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
7. Submit the completed form in two copies along with the supporting documents (listed below) to the GIS regional and district office or the head office.
8. This application will be processed and information will be verified by the authority.
9. If the verification is successful, the notification will be sent to the applicant.
10. After the notified period, applicant gets certificate as per applicable delivery norms.

• Passport size photographs.
• Photo copy of passport.
• Proof of residential address.
• Attach 2 passport size photos
• In the case of applications by non-nationals, applicant should justify why he/she doesn't have or can't obtain your national travel document
• Expired Certificate of Identity or copy of expired travel document
• Recommender must attach a photocopy of his/her Work ID and countersign
• Payment receipt
