ProcedureEdit

  1. Go to the Register of Deeds office.
  2. Present and submit documents required.
  3. Complete the application form. Marriage License Application Worksheet for Bride and Groom
  4. Pay the marriage license fee.

EligibilityEdit

  • Both applicants must be of 18 years old and above.
  • Applicants who are 16 and 17 years old must provide parental consent.
  • South Dakota law does not permit marriages under 16.

Marriage License Fee: $40.00



ValidityEdit

The marriage license is valid for 20 days.

InstructionsEdit

  • The marriage license can be applied from local Register of Deeds offices.
  • The marriage must be solemnized within 20 days from the purchase of your license or the license becomes void.
  • After marriage, the individual who solemnizes the marriage must return the license to the Register of Deeds within 10 days.
  • Marriage may be solemnized by a justice of the supreme court, a judge of the circuit court, a magistrate, or any person authorized by a church to solemnize marriages.
