Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Architect Temporary Practicing Certificate (TPC) in Ghana, the applicant must go to the ministry of works and housing. Contact link
2. Information related to the MWH office and License authority can be obtained from the “Office locations and contacts” section of this page.
3. The applicant must write an application letter stating the reason to register as an Architect in Ghana.
4. Application form should be made in the relevant department.
5. The Application form should be filled in triplicate.
6. The Original copy should remain with the applicant.
7. Duplicate copy should be filed in applicant’s file
8. The last copy should remain in the book.
9. Submit the application with all the required documents.
10. The applicant has to make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
11. The prescribed fee must be paid and the receipt must be attached with the application form and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
12. Please provide the names and addresses of registered architect with whom associated with who can comment on the character competence and reputation of yourself and your firm.
13. Please provide the name and address of the applicant’s firm's bankers as required by the Registrar.
14. Submit the payment receipt together with the application documents.
15. The Registrar shall after receipt of application referred the application to any public authority designated by the Committee for consideration and comments.
16. The permit may be granted for a period not exceeding one year. The certificate shall be granted subject to such conditions as are relevant to the specified particular types of projects determined by the Committee. This certificate is valid only for the projects for which it has been granted.
17. A processing time of 30 working days is needed to complete the processing of the Architect Temporary Practicing, after which the applicant will be contacted through email / phone call to collect his/her, Temporary Practicing Certificate.
18. Applicant will be required to carry the applicant’s identification documents when collecting the applicant Temporary Practicing Certificate.

Eligibility

• Applicant must be a temporary practicing Architect.

Fees

• Application Fee –GHS 300.000

Validity

• Architects temporarily practicing certificate are required to practice Architects.
• The certificate is valid only for the projects for which it has been granted usually 1 year.

Need for the Document

• The practicing certificate allows a person to lawfully execute the works of an Architect in a position of responsibility and/or at a fee.
• An Architect Registration Certificate shows that one has met the requirements to join the Architectural profession under regulations by ARC. The Registration Certificate alone does not allow one too lawfully to perform architectural work, the applicant also need a current Practicing certificate
