ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for Animal Transfer Permit in person, the applicant has to contact/visit the Ghana Veterinary Service offices to make the application. Contact link
  2. Applicant must obtain the application form from Veterinary Service Office.
  3. Applicant has to enter all information in the application form.
  4. Attach the all documents to the forms before submission application to the authority.
  5. The applicant should make sure they are eligible for applying for license by reading through the eligibility criteria that has been listed out under the “Eligibility” section of this page.
  6. Please make sure applicant have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
  7. The applicant must attach an import permit from the destination country to confirm that his/her Animal goods are duly authorized to enter that country.
  8. The applicant shall also attach a veterinary health certificate attesting to the health status of the animal, and/or safety of the products, an invoice, packing list, Air waybill/Bill of Lading and any other relevant document.
  9. If all is deemed safe, the Directorate for Animal Resources shall authorize the transit by issuing a transit permit.
  10. Please make sure applicant have the pay the fees that are listed down the “fees” section of this page.
  11. The Veterinary Inspector at the port of entry/exit shall perform a general inspection on the health of all live animals or animal products in transit. Where necessary, goods/products shall be disinfected in accordance to the international guidelines of the Animal Transfer before permission to transit to the next country.
  12. The transit live animals or animal products may be moved to quarantine facilities if considered necessary. The owner shall be responsible for all expense incurred
  13. In the case of pets, a copy of the document proving ownership of the pet (name and address of pet owner) shall be presented.
  14. The authorities will go through your application and upon verification the Animal Transfer Permitwill be issued on the 1 month.

  • Foreigner tourist must have a tourist visa.

  • Animal Transfer Permit fee is GHS 3,000/= paid annually.

  • Animal Transfer Permit validity is for one year.

Need for the DocumentEdit

A wildlife transportation permit shall be obtained for all shipments of animal (native or exotic) prior to:

  • Receiving a shipment of wildlife
  • Importing wildlife into Ghana or.
  • Transporting wildlife into and through the state to a destination outside of Ghana.
