ProcedureEdit

1.When applicants arrive in the country, they should start by identifying the nearest refugee office in the country. This is any office of the National Commission for Refugees or any office of a partnering organization that handles refugee issues;

2.Then the applicant is advised to visit the identified office to find out what is required apply for asylum in the country;

3.Thereafter the applicant submits required documents together with application to the identified office;

4.When an application is submitted and received, officers from the government and from partnering organizations in Gabon examine the submitted documents and thereafter the applicant is interviewed to assess eligibility.

5.If approved, the asylum seeker is granted refugee status;

6.When the refugee status is granted, the applicant is issued a certificate confirming their refugee status;

7.When the certificate for refugee status expires, the refugee who wish to continue staying in the country can apply for residence in order to be able to stay in Gabon as regular migrants. In this case refugees apply for the residence permit to stay in Gabon to the General Directorate of Documentation and Immigration (DGDI); and if approved, the General Directorate of Documentation and Immigration (DGDI) issues the residence card to the refugee.

1.An applicant must ensure that he / she has a genuine and sound reasons for fear in home country;

2.Cause of persecution should not be after doing a serious crime against humanity in home country;

3.Applicants must be ready to abide by the rules and regulations of the country;

4.If asylum is granted, an applicant must not engage in activities that are harmful to the interest of the country;

5.Applicants must not be in any war against any country;

6.A refugee in Gabon cannot obtain a work permit;

7.Approved applicants are advised to always carry identification documents in order to avoid harassment and penalties from authorities;

Refugees applying for asylum are seeking refugee status in a foreign country. Refugee issues in Gabon are handled by the government through the National Commission for Refugees together with partnering organizations.
