Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To report crime in Fiji, the applicant must visit the Fiji Police station Contacts

2. After visiting the police station, the individual must informs the serving officer about the crime that has occurred.
3. The person reporting crime is then required to make a statement that is recorded.
4. After the case is recorded, the case will be assigned to a specific police officer with a Case Reference Number.
5. After this the individual may or may not be called to make a statement at the police station.
6. If it is decided that the reporter of crime needs to make a statement, the officer attached to case shall ask him / her several questions that he / she must answer in details to allow police know what really happened at the crime scene.
7. Depending on information given by the person reporting crime, police then decides on whether case requires investigation or not.
8. Also, the police may further decide to investigate the details of the crime to the reported and the other suspects involved in the crime scene.
9. The crime report will be processed immediately by the Fiji Police Department.

2. Also, there are Toll-Free helpline numbers that the reporting person can use to report the crime. The number is 917.
3. The individual can report the crime through the email address provided by the Fiji Police Department. The email ID is [email protected]
4. After the crime is reported, the information is logged and coded by the Police Department.

Instructions

• A person reporting case is advised to give as much information as he / she can in order to enable police to the understand case better.
• .An interpreter is always availed in cases where a person reporting casing does not speak / understand English or where a person is deaf or has hardships in hearing.

Required Information

• Name and contact address of person reporting crime.
• Date and time of crime.
• Details of crime scene.
• Details / type of crime being reported.
• Details of suspect(s) (if any)
• Details of witnesses (any person present at the crime scene)

• By law, all the crime occurrences must be reported to police.

A person who reports case must know that sometimes when case is reported, a person may not be asked to make a statement and sometimes may not be contacted at all but that does not mean case was not taken serious but instead police may have decided to carry out investigation silently.

Other uses of the Document/Certificate

If the case is moved forward to the court or other legal places, the reported crime is must document.
