To Register a Non-Governmental Organization the applicant has to approach Ministry of Foreign affairs contact link or the applicant can approach NGO Registration office at Ministry of Justice location link
Step 1: Pre-registration
- Name Search
- Make an application for reservation of a name. You are expected to propose three (3) names in order of priority for the organization to be registered.
- Processing fee is charged for the name search and reservation.
- The name search and reservation takes up to half a day.
- Once a name has been approved, it is reserved for a period of sixty days.
Step 2: Registration
- A written application to the NGO Registration Office is required for registration.
- Using the new approves name you should then approach the NGO board offices to make the application for registration.
- The applicant will be issued with two forms to complete, that are Register of Non-Governmental Organizations and Application for Registration.
- All applications should either be typed or filled in block letters. All applications must contain ORIGINAL signatures of the officials and members as applicable.
- You should then proceed to pay the applicable application fees.
- The processing time for registration is one month thereafter the NGO’s contact person will be contacted by the NGO board and be issued with a registration certificate.

EligibilityEdit
In order to be eligible, An NGO must have a sole aim of providing assistance to the society with no aim of making profits.
FeesEdit
- Fee for the procedure has to be paid as per the authority request.
- This is payable only by foreigners and it is paid in money order or certified check.
ValidityEdit
The certificate of registration is valid for a period of sixty months from the date of issue.

- The NGO that wishes to obtain certificate should be offering activities that are not available in the proposed area of operation.
- Ensure that the NGO wishes to obtain a certificate is a non-profit organization.
- Ensure that the NGO seeking to obtain the registration certificate meets the number of members required.
- The registrar of titles may for any genuine reasons cancel registration of an organization.

An NGO needs to be registered for it to carry out its objectives in Ethiopia. After registration, the NGO is given an operating permit, which allows them to operate in Ethiopia.
