Ethiopia - Apply for Spouse and Family Visa

Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. The application form for spouse and family visa is available in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.

3. Applicant must make sure to carry all the related documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page. (Both photocopies and originals).
4. Applicant should fill-in all the necessary details in the application form.
5. Applicant should attach the photocopies of the related documents that are required for the procedure to complete along with the application form before submitting it.
6. The fee must be paid as requested by the authorities while submitting the form.
7. The application form and the attached documents will be verified by the concerned authorities.
8. It takes around two weeks for the procedure to get complete and the applicant can get the Visa.
9. If the applicant didn’t get the document within a month, then, they can visit the office for getting information on their application.

2. The applicant must upload the digital copies of the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
3. Please Fill the Request Form Properly in order to submit your service request application. Fields marked with ‘astrics (*)’ sign are mandatory information that should be provided by you to process your application by selected service provider.
4. If you wish to pause your application request process and continue later, your can do so by saving your application as a Draft and Resume it later from Draft Applications Section.
5. After you Submit your Service Request Application, you will be provided with a unique Tracking Number and Service provider branch that will process your service request.
6. This information will also be sent to your email address you provided at registration time. With your tracking number, you can follow up the progress of your application on Track My Application Section.
7. You can only apply for the Same Service Request once. Only after the completion of existing Service request, you can reapply to the Service again.
8. Case worker who handled your service Request may contact you for further information regarding your application.
9. You can reply for case worker inquires on Messages Section. Depending on you requested service business process, you may also be asked to fill other forms to process your application further on Correspondence Section.
10. For Service requests that requires a physical presence a as a part of business process (Example: Payment, hard print document verifications, Document Pickup), you will be asked to reserve appointment time On Appointment Section.
11. Once you complete your reservation, the provider will reserve the time and service counter for you. You can’t change your reservation time, so make sure you will be at reserved service counter before 10 minutes of reservation time.

Required Documents

The documents that are required for the application process are as follows:

Applying for Spouse Visa

• Two passport size photos
• Copy of Ethiopian Husband’s Passport
• Written approval from the husband
• A copy of marriage contract/certificate.
  

Applying for Family Visa

• One passport size photo
• Birth Certificate
• A copy of Father’s or Mother’s Passport
• A written approval from Father or Mother
• 2 copies of data page of the spouse`s passport + 2 copies of Ethiopian entry visa and according entry and exit stamp, if applicable
• If spouse does not have foreign citizenship, then 2 copies of Foreign residence permit
• 2 identical passport pictures according to biometric specifications, one attached to application form and one or 2 loose identical passport pictures of the spouse according to biometric specifications
• Marriage certificate
• 2 copies of all marriage certificates and divorce decrees from previous marriages, if applicable
• Birth certificate/ certified true copy from the birth registry or declaration of age deposed to by one of the parents or head of the family if both parents are deceased.
• Affidavit* of marital status of the applicant deposed to by one of the parents or head of family if both parents are deceased
• All school certificates, baptismal card if applicable, any other biographically old documents (vaccination card, voter`s card etc.)
• Complete names, exact addresses and telephone numbers of the parents**, in case they are deceased declaration of death or certificate of death
• Complete names, exact addresses and telephone numbers of all brothers and sisters.
• Complete names, exact addresses and phone numbers of two further reference persons in Ethiopia.
• Complete names, exact addresses and telephone numbers of the witnesses to the marriage.
• Exact indication of your last two addresses in Ethiopia.
• Exact names and addresses of the schools you attended and periods of time spent there.
• Exact names and addresses of former employers in Ethiopia for the past 10 years.
• If available, marriage photographs and old pictures showing applicant and family
• If you have children who are not travelling with you: birth certificate or declaration of age as well as address and telephone number of the other parent.

Eligibility

• Immediate Relatives – Spouse, Widow/widower, Minor, Unmarried Children, parents of the Ethiopian citizen who’s 18 years old or older.
• Returning Residents –Lawful Permanent residents of foreign country, Returning to Ethiopia after a stay of more than one year abroad.
• Family – Spouse, Children, Unmarried sons, Daughters under 21 and unmarried, Brothers and Sisters.
  

Fees

Please pay as per the authority’s request.

Validity

The validity period is 3 years. The visa can be extended if the visa holder decides to stay longer.
