Procedure

Apply In person

1. To Obtain a Firearm License in person, the applicant has to approach the Ministry of Interior Contact link
2. Also refer to the addresses mentioned in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this procedure.
3. Visit the ministry of interior at the Egypt Area Station to make the application for a firearm license. The Chief Licensing Officer will provide to applicant with the prescribed application form for you to complete.
4. Visit CID headquarters to have fingerprints taken and obtain a Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations. This process usually takes a period of two weeks to complete and it costs EGP 1050.
5. Documents that are needed for this procedure are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page.
6. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
7. Submit the completed forms along with the supporting documents at the respective office.
8. The application is then vetted by the District Security Intelligence Committee and County Security Committee before rejection or approval.
9. The list of those vetted and cleared for consideration to be licensed gun holders is then forwarded to the Inspector General of Police, who has the final say to instruct the Chief Licensing Officer to clear the applicant.
10. Upon clearance by the IG of police the Chef Licensing Officer will issue to the applicant with the firearm license.
11. The processing time is usually one month.

Eligibility

• Be at least 21 years old
• Be well trained in handling firearms. A potential gun holder must have training on the use of small arms and in the process. A certificate is then issued to prove that one is capable of owning a gun.
• Have a clear criminal record. A potential firearm holder needs to get clearance from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations as well as fill a form with the Egypt Firearms Act.

Fees

• Per rifle or shotgun or combination rifle or shotgun EGP 2,000
• Per pistol or revolver EGP 5,000

Validity

• The license is valid for one year from the date when it was granted or last renewed

• Date and place of issue of any firearm certificate previously held

• The firearms license allows the licensee to buy, own, possess, or carry a firearm. It is often subject to a number of conditions or restrictions, especially with regard to storage requirements or the completion of a firearms safety course, as well as background checks.

Applicant application can be disqualified on the basis that

• Applicant is temperamental.
• Applicant cannot or may not store the gun safely.
• Applicant is insane.
