Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for investment incentives, the foreign investors must either establish a branch, or an Egyptian subsidiary (entity).
2. The applicant must visit General Authority for Investment and free zone (GAFI) and fill out the application form.
3. The General Authority for Investment and free zone (GAFI) will provide for a professional evaluation of the project (two standpoints) within three months after accepting the application for incentives.
4. The General Authority for Investment and free zone (GAFI) issues a decision on granting the incentives to the project, if the investor engages in manufacturing of the following projects
   • Industrial activities or
   • invest in areas of information and communication technology development or
   • production of agricultural products
5. The income tax exemption under the provisions of the above accepted lists shall be effective when the investor provides the information for the relevant revenue collecting institution and its validity is ascertained for each income tax period.

Eligibility

• All foreign investors who plans to engage in Investment in Egypt,or a domestic one or a partnership of foreign and domestic investors are Eligible for Investment Incentives.
  
• Investment Activities Eligible for Income Tax Exemption.
  

Fees

The fees should be around less than L.E. 250000 for a joint stock Business.

Validity

The validity of 10 years.

Need for the Document

• Egypt’s Investment Incentives Law provides guarantees against nationalization or confiscation of investment projects under the law’s domain.  The law also provides guarantees against seizure, requisition, blocking, and placing of assets under custody or sequestration.  It offers guarantees against full or partial expropriation of real estate and investment project property.
  
• The Government of Egypt (GOE) offers a no. of investment incentives by setting a series of investment laws related to tax reduction, tariff exemptions and granting numerous guarantees to new investors.
  
• The 1997 Investment Incentives Law was designed to encourage domestic and foreign investment in targeted economic sectors and to promote decentralization of industry away from the Nile Valley.
