- The application to obtain a waste treatment license better known as a Waste Management Facility License shall be made out to the Director at the Department of Waste Management and Pollution Control office. - Application shall be made in writing using a prescribed form-Waste Facility License Application Form obtainable at any of the Department of Waste Management and Pollution Control offices or download it directly using this link- Waste Facility License Application Form
- Submit the completed application form along with the supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page, to the Department of Waste Management and Pollution Control office for consideration.
- The application shall also be accompanied by a license fee of BWP 1000.00 (charged per vehicle, which is payable as per the department preferable mode of payment.
- Upon receipt of the application, the receiving officers will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
- Applicants are issued with an acknowledgment letter/payment receipt as proof of submission of the application file and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
- The Director's office may request additional information relevant to the application. In such a case, the information must be submitted within the stipulated time from the date of notification. Where the applicant fails to submit the required information, the application shall be rejected.
- After the document evaluation has been completed satisfactorily, the Director shall prepare the license that shall be valid for one (1) year, which indicates the approval scope and limitations.
- A notice of the decision (Approval, Deferral, or Rejection) for the application will be communicated to the applicant in writing, within ten (10) working days from the date of submission of the application.
- Where the Director is not satisfied that the application meets the requirements for the application, he shall reject the application and notify the applicant thereof in writing, stating the reasons for the rejection.
- Will collect the license the applicant will be required to produce their identification document, approval letter, and proof of payment of the license fee.
Appeal to the Minister
Any person aggrieved by the refusal of the Director to issue a license may, within 28 days from the date of such refusal, appeal against the refusal to the Minister.

- Lease agreement or title deed with site map
- Land use authorisation from local authorities (Zoning Permit)
- Environmental Health report
- Record keeping procedures
- Facility closure or rehabilitation plan
- Any other additional document information, as may be requested by the Authority.

ValidityEdit
- The license shall be valid for one (1) year unless suspended, revoked, or cancelled by the Issuing Authority.
- This license is valid for one year and therefore requires renewal annually.
