Botswana - Validate Foreign Pilot Licence

To validate Foreign Pilot Licence, the applicant should visit the CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY OF BOTSWANA {CAAB) head office to apply. Please view the CAAB contact details via this link:Link
Applicants are required to complete and submit the prescribed APPLICATION FOR VALIDATION OF A FOREIGN PILOT LICENCE FORM CA 61-02.9. Forms are available for free at any of the CAAB offices.
The completed form attached to the supporting documents as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page, is to be submitted to the CAAB head office for consideration; only if the applicant is a holder of a valid medical certificate or after ascertaining that your medical assessment has been assessed as “fit” by the Civil Aviation Medical Board (CAMB). This will be certified in the appropriate section of the application form.
The CAAB registration and licensing receiving officer will verify if all the required documents and information have been provided, and if the application is compliant if everything is in order, the application file will be registered, upon paying the prescribed fee, as mentioned under the “FEE” section of this page.
Applicants will then be issued with an acknowledgment letter, containing details of the application.
The application file will be assessed and processed by the registration and licensing unit, based on the information and documents that have been provided and if complying;
Applicants will then be required to book and take Botswana Air law Examinations (theory and flight test) with an appropriately approve Botswana Delegated Examiner.
Having successful passing the Botswana Air law Examinations; the CAAB registration and licensing unit will then establish the authenticity and validity of the foreign pilot license, by contacting the authority that issued the license, if satisfied with the outcome
The application is approved and you will be notified when the validation document is ready for collection by phone or mail.
Validation is a short-term document, which facilitates the applicant to exercise foreign flight crew license privileges in Botswana registered aircraft.
Proceed to the CAAB registration and license office and present the acknowledgment letter and identity document to be validated by the licensing office, sign on the signature pad/book and collect the validated document at the dispatch office against your identity document.

A valid medical certificate
A photocopy of the applicant’s foreign license and medical certification
A knowledge test report and/or skill test report conducted by a CAAB Designated Pilot Examiner
Personal logbooks or other records substantiating the flight experience shown on the Application form
A photocopy of the applicant’s logbook
Two (2) color passport size recent photographs (full face)
Valid identity document (passport)
Payment receipt of the prescribed fees
Any other additional documents requested for be the CAAB

The validated document has a maximum validity up to six months; However, this period will not extend beyond the expiry date of the applicant’s foreign licence or medical certification under any circumstance

Need for the DocumentEdit

Anyone with a foreign pilot license wanting to fly a Botswana registered aircraft are required to have their {PPL, CPL or ATPL} foreign pilot license validate by the CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY OF BOTSWANA {CAAB).
A current PPL, CPL and ATPL issued by the licensing Authority of an ICAO member state may be recognised for the issue of a validation. A validation is a short-term document, which facilitates the applicant to exercise foreign flight crew licence privileges in Botswana registered aircraft.
The only alternative would be to take a safety pilot along, who then acts as pilot-in-command (PIC).
