- Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is a type of emergency service dedicated to providing out-of-hospital emergency medical care, transport to definitive care, and other medical transport of patients with illnesses and injuries which prevent the patient from transporting themselves.
- Any concerned person or the patient can report and request for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) by simply by calling the Emergency Medical Services number (997).
- Upon being connected to the dispatcher, you will be required to verbally state the following information;
- Full names of the (patient/caller)
- Location of the patient (street address, landmark)
- What happened? What caused the injury?
- The condition of the patient
- The number of patients
- The contact number of the caller
- You will be advised by the dispatcher on how to give first aid while waiting for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team to arrive.
- An ambulance will then be dispatched to the scene immediately and the Patients are then categorized by priority according to the sickest i.e. the sickest patients will be collected first.
- Please note; an ambulance may be diverted en route to go assist a patient in another location who is more critical.

An “emergency” is an incident where a person experiences a life-threatening or potentially life-threatening situation resulting from an illness or accident which requires urgent treatment and transport to a medical facility.
Please take note of the following roles you may play in an Emergency situation;
- Please do not crowd emergency scenes to allow the health care workers to execute their work
- Do not use the emergency line for a prank and non-emergency calls
- Give way to an ambulance with light (and or sirens on)
- Please only call when you have emergencies
- Please cooperate with the dispatcher
- Please listen to the dispatcher’s advice on how to give first aid while waiting
- Keep Calm

This service includes the treatment and transportation of “emergency” patients who are acutely ill or who have sustained injuries. Emergency services are dedicated to providing out-of-hospital, intra-hospital, and inter-hospital treatment.
