Botswana - Renewal of Aerodrome Licence

Apply in Person:

An application for renewal of an aerodrome license shall be made to the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) office, least ninety (90) days before the expiration date of the current license, if desired to continue operate as an Aerodrome. CAAB Contact Details
The application shall be made in writing, fill out the application form; Aerodrome Establishment Certificate Application Form – C, accurately and attach the relevant documents as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page, for consideration.
Upon receipt of the file, the Authority will make administrative checks to make sure that the application dossier for Airport certification/license renewal is completed and acceptable.
Should the file be incomplete, the Authority will inform the applicant that additional information is required or some modifications must be brought to the file. The file shall be resubmitted to the Authority for processing.
The application shall be accompanied by an application fee. All payments should be deposited to the CAAB Bank Account. Please refer to the “Fees” section of this page for more information.
The Authority shall examine the application to determine whether the licensee has been operating within the authority parameters and not breach any bylaws as set by the Authority.
The Authority shall also schedule inspection on the facility, an CAAB's Inspectors will carry out a detailed examination of the Aerodrome, its facilities, equipment and operational organization to acertain that the licensee has been operating in accordance with the CAAB regulations.
The interval between application and grant of a licence/certificate may depend upon matters within the control of the applicant and no undertaking can be given that CAAB will be able to reach a decision within a particular period
The Authority may refuse to issue an Aerodrome license to an applicant if it finds that the applicant does not comply or meet the requirements of the Civil Aviation Act and the Civil Aviation (Licensing of Air Services) Regulations.
Upon satisfying the Authority with the preliminary requirements, a draft license is made available for withdrawal by the applicant.
While collecting the license the applicant will be required to present proof of payment of the grant of the renewal permit as mentioned on the CAAB fees schedule.

Required DocumentsEdit

Copy of an approved aerodrome operations manual;
A plan for the aerodrome;
An environmental impact assessment report on the aerodrome;
Approval of the establishment of the aerodrome from the relevant local authority
particulars of any non-compliance or deviations from the appropriate aerodrome design, operation or equipment standards;
particulars of the airspace classification requirements;
A copy of the establishment certificate
Proof of payment of the license/certificate fee
Any othe r supporting document as requested by the Authority.

Note: All copies of documents submitted to the Authority are to be certified by a Commissioner of Oaths.

Note: These fees are subject to amendment by the Authority.

Payment methods:

Payment can be made by cash or company cheques at BTA headquarters, plot 206/207, independence avenue, Gaborone.
Customers within Botswana may Deposit Cash into BTA account number 62011115088, First National Bank, The Mall Branch, Gaborone. Deposit may be paid at any FNB Branch in Botswana, Bank charges of P3.00 will be payable by the customer in addition to the invoice amount.
Customers from outside Botswana are requested to pay fees by means of a bank draft in Botswana Pula. Customers paying through a Bank are requested to fax the deposit receipt to the BTA Fax number +267 3957976. Please indicate your BTA Invoice number in the receipt

ValidityEdit

The aerodrome license issued by the Authority shall be valid for 1 year and once expired the operator shall be required to apply for renewal.
Application for renewal of the permit should be submitted at least thirty (30) days of expiration of the current license.
