Apply In Person

  1. The application to renew a Flight Radio Telephony Operator License shall be submitted to the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) head office, not later than fourteen (14) working days prior to the date of expiry of the current license. CAAB Contact Details.
  2. The application shall be made in writing in such a manner as prescribed by the CAAB office and shall be accompanied by all the supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page and submitted to the CAAB head office, Personal Licensing unit for consideration. Any omission of the required information or documents will render the application process incomplete.
  3. Upon receipt of the application, the Personal Licensing officers will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
  4. If the Personal Licensing officer is satisfied that all the requirements have been met for the application for the license, the application is registered for processing and consideration.
  5. Applicants will be required to pay prescribed application fees of BWP 5,000.00 as per the CAAB Fees Schedule, (refer to the “Fees” section of this page), which is payable either in cash at the CAAB cashier counter/accounts office or by cheque in favour of the CAAB.
  6. The applicant is issued with a payment slip and an acknowledgment slip as proof of submission of the application and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
  7. After successful processing of the submitted documents, when all regulatory requirements for approval of the license are satisfactorily met, the CAAB Personal Licensing officer shall prepare the renewed license that shall be valid for ten (10) years from the date of issue, which indicate the approval scope and limitations.
  8. Notice of the decision (Approval, Deferral, or Rejection) for the application will be communicated to the applicant by phone or mail after fourteen (14) working days of submitting the application.
  9. Proceed to the CAAB personal registration and license office and present the acknowledgment letter and identity document and proof of payment of the license fee of BWP 75.00 For every 100kg or part thereof of the aggregate, as per the CAAB Fees Schedule, (refer to the “Fees” section of this page) to be validated by the licensing office, the applicant will be required to surrender their expired license before being issued with the renewed license.

EligibilityEdit

  • One should have a valid or expired flight radiotelephony operator license.
  • A holder of a flight radiotelephony operator license may apply for a renewal of the license if the holder has exercised the privileges of the license in the six months preceding the date of application.
  • The applicant has passed all Knowledge Tests/Examinations Passed and skills tests (as per Civil Aviation Personnel Licensing requirements)

  • The Flight Radio Telephony Operator's License (FRTOL) authorizes the holder to operate an Aircraft Radio Station in a Botswana registered aircraft.
  • A holder of a flight radiotelephony operator license shall have the privilege to use the radiotelephone on board an aircraft.
  • This license needs to be renewed in time to keep enjoying the incentives that come with holding a valid Flight Radio Telephony Operator's license.
  • NB: The license is held in conjunction with other Flight Crew licenses.
