Procedure

Apply In Person

1. An application for the renewal of an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) shall be submitted to the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) office, not later than sixty (60) days prior to the date of expiry of the current license. CAAB Contact Details
2. The application shall be made in writing using a prescribed form- Application for The Renewal of An Aircrew Licence (A&H), obtainable at the CAAB offices or download it via the CAAB website CAAB Application Forms or download it directly using this link; Application for The Renewal of An Aircrew Licence (A&H) Form
3. The completed form, shall be accompanied by all the supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page and submitted to the CAAB head office, Personal Licensing unit for consideration, only if the applicant is a holder of a valid medical certificate or after ascertaining that your medical assessment has been assessed as “fit” by the Civil Aviation Medical Board (CAMB). This will be certified in the Aviation Medical Assessment application form. Any omission of the required information or documents will render the application process incomplete.
4. Upon receipt of the application, the Personal Licensing officers will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
5. If the Personal Licensing officer is satisfied that all the requirements have been met for the application for the license, the application is registered for processing and consideration.
6. Applicants will be required to pay prescribed fees of BWP 1,100.00 as mentioned on the CAAB fee schedule (refer to the “Fees” section of this page), which is payable either in cash at the CAAB cashier counter/accounts office or by cheque in favour of the CAAB.
7. The applicant is issued with a payment slip and an acknowledgment slip as proof of submission of the application and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
8. After the successful screening of the submitted documents, a notice of the decision (Approval, Deferral, or Rejection) for the application will be communicated to the applicant by phone or mail, after fourteen (14) working days.
9. Proceed to the CAAB personal registration and license office and present the acknowledgment letter and identity document and proof of payment of the license fee to be validated by the licensing office.
10. The applicant will be made to, sign on the signature pad/book and will be issued with the printed renewed license.
11.  Airline Transport Pilots Licences will normally be renewed for a full period of ten years.

• Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) to be renewed
• Valid identity document (passport/Identity card)
• Recent passport size photograph
• Certified copies of the last 2 pages of the personal logbook. These pages show the latest flying experience certified by the pilot’s supervisor, who will certify the relevant logbook entries by endorsing his signature and license number.
• Proof of payment of the renewal fee.

Eligibility

• The applicant should be in possession of a valid/ expired Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL).
• The applicant holds a valid Medical Certificate.

Fees

• A fee of BWP 1,100.00 is charged for the renewal application.

Validity

• The validity of the Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) will be indicated on the license, the license shall remain valid for a period of ten (10) years, unless suspended, revoked, or cancelled by the authority.
• Applicants need to apply for license renewal to CAAB at least sixty (60) days before expiry.

Need for the Document

• An Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) is the highest level of aircraft pilot certificate. Those certified as airline transport pilots (unconditional) are authorized to act as pilot in command on scheduled air carriers' aircraft.
