Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. The application to register Economic Diversification Drive (EDD) shall be made to the Economic Diversification Drive Unit housed at the Department of Industrial Affairs office, which is under the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry office.Ministry contact details.
2. Applicants will be required to collect the Application Form for Economic Diversification Drive (EDD).Copies of these forms are available for free at the Department of Industrial Affairs (DIA) head office, or directly download it using this link:EDD Application Form
3. The applicant will be required to submit the certified copies of the supporting documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page; in addition to the duly completed application form to the DIA head office. Any omission of these documents will render the registration process incomplete.
4. Upon receipt of the application file, the secretariat will verify if all the necessary information and documentation has been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before registering the file for assessment and consideration by the Economic Diversification Drive Unit.
5. The applicant will be notified of the outcome via SMS by the Economic Diversification Drive Unit.
6. If approved the processing officer will draw up the EDD registration certificate as directed by the minister and have it certified by a senior officer.
7. The applicant will be required to produce a proof of identity document and acknowledgment letter while collecting the certificate at the DIA head office.
8. The certificate shall be subject to such terms and conditions as the minister/Authorized officer may deem fit to impose in each case, and such terms and conditions or requirements shall be endorsed on the certificate.

Apply Online

1. Applicants should visit the [eservices.gov.bw Link] website /click on the link below, read and accept the terms and Condition’s page and if you agree click on the ACCEPT tab then click on the OK tab;Link
2. The EDD registration form will be displayed, fill out all the mandatory fields accurately, and upload the following documents;

   • Copy of most recent financial statement (balance sheet and income statement)

   NOTE: New enterprises are allowed to submit projected financial statements (balance sheet and income statement) provided the enterprise has been in operation for less than a year, (for the first year of application only)

   • Copy of current valid relevant license or registration certificate from a competent authority, (for manufacturing/industrial/trade license attach the copy of the receipt for an annual fee). For unregulated activities attach a printout of PPADB codes.
   • Copy of registration and/or incorporation certificate issued by the Companies and Intellectual Property Authority, (For new EDD applications only).
   • Copy of a valid Tax Clearance Certificate

   NB: All attachments should be in PDF format and less than 4MB in size.

3. Captcha the security image and then click on the SUBMIT tab.
4. Upon receipt of the application file, the secretariat will verify if all the necessary information and documentation has been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before registering the file for assessment and consideration by the Economic Diversification Drive Unit.
5. Applicants will receive an acknowledgment email within 48 hours of submitting their application with a reference number.
6. The applicant will be notified of the outcome via SMS/email by the Economic Diversification Drive Unit.
7. If approved the processing officer will draw up the EDD registration certificate as directed by the minister and have it certified by a senior officer.
8. The applicant will be required to produce a proof of identity document and state the reference number while collecting the certificate at the DIA head office.
9. The certificate shall be subject to such terms and conditions as the minister/Authorized officer may deem fit to impose in each case, and such terms and conditions or requirements shall be endorsed on the certificate.

Required Documents

• Certified copy of the certificate of registration and/or incorporation
• Certified copy of a valid relevant license/ Registration Certificate or the letter of waiver
• Copy of Tax Clearance Certificate Application to transfer a License
• Financial statements for the enterprises with an annual turnover of below P500 000
• Audited financial statements, for those enterprises with an annual turnover of P500 000 and above
• Projected financial statements for enterprises that have been operating for less than a year

• Locally registered businesses engaged in manufacturing, service provision (excluding agents/ distributors/retailers/resellers/ etc.) and agricultural production.
