Apply In-Person

  1. There are three categories of engineers that are registered and licensed by the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) i.e. Graduate, Registered, and Professional Categories. For each category, there are three sub-categories of registration being Engineering Technician, Engineering Technologist, and Certified Engineer.Engineers Registration Board (ERB) Contact Details
  2. To registration as a Registered Engineer, applicants are required to collect and complete the Professional Engineer Registration Application form. Copies are available at the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) offices countrywide or download it via the ERB website Professional-Application for Registration or directly download it using this link; Professional – Application for Registration Form.
  3. The applicant will be required to submit the certified true copies of the supporting documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page; in addition to the duly completed application form in all respect to the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) offices. Any omission of these documents will render the registration process incomplete.
  4. Upon receipt of the application file, the department receptionist/secretary at the front desk will verify if all the necessary information and documentation has been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before registering the application file for assessment and consideration by the board, which is within six (6) to twelve (12) weeks provided everything is in order.
  5. Applicants will be issued with an acknowledgment slip/reference number as proof of submission of the application.
  6. The board shall only approve the registration, where it is satisfied that the applicant;
    • Meets the requirements specified in the engineer registration act.
    • has demonstrated his/her competence as measured against standards as may be determined by the Board for registration under that category;
    • has passed any other examination or interview as the Board may determine, or
    • has presented evidence of prior learning in engineering
  7. The applications shall be assessed based on the information and documents that have been provided before deciding on the merits of each application.
  8. Notice of the decision (Approval, Deferral, or Rejection) for the application will be communicated to the client by SMS, email, or any relevant contact method preferable by the client.
  9. If approved, the board will direct the registrar to register the applicant as an engineer and draw up the registration certificate as directed by the board to be issued to the client.
  10. The applicant will be required to produce a proof of identity document and the approval letter/acknowledgment slip when collecting the registration certificate at the specific office the application was lodged.
  11. If your application was not successful, you will be notified of that outcome. You may then be refunded the money you paid except for the non-refundable application fee.


Apply Online

  1. Applicants can submit the application via the ERB website ERB Registration Link and click on the “Create New Account” option, fill out the registration form then click on the “Submit” tab.
  2. Upon successfully registering, on the next page select “Registration process” then select “Registration” then click on the “CREATE +” tab.
  3. You will be redirected to the Registration Page; fill out all applicable fields, upload the certified true copies of the supporting documents as mentioned under the “Required Document” section below. Any omission of these documents will render the registration process incomplete. Then click on the “Submit” tab.

Please Note:
You may also apply for the practicing license at the same time, when applying for the Registration certificate or apply it, upon obtaining the registration certificate. EligibilityEdit

To register in the registered engineer category, applicants must meet the following requirement to qualify;

  • Citizens and non-citizens are eligible to apply.
  • Less than four (4) years post qualification experience in the engineering discipline you want to register for.
  • Be unable to demonstrate all the required competencies for registration as a Professional.
  • These are qualifications required for ERB registration
    • Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Engineering
    • BTech Degree in Engineering
    • BSc or BEng Degree in Engineering


FeesEdit

The first-time registration fee for Registered Engineer is BWP2500.00; Non-Refundable. Fees then differ accordingly, depending on the career profile and qualification of the engineer. Refer to the link below.

PAYMENT METHOD NOTES:

  • The accepted method of payment is direct deposits into the ERB bank account or using your debit or credit card at the POS machine available at the ERB offices.
  • No cash will be accepted at ERB Offices. Cheques sent to ERB by post will also not be accepted. ERB will take no responsibility for cheques lost in the post or intercepted and fraudulently banked in another party’s bank account.
  • When payments are made at the Bank, an applicant must quote their full name as the reference.

Engineer Registration Certificate shows that one has met the requirements to join the engineering profession under regulations by ERB. Once granted, it does not expire. Registration alone does not allow one too lawfully to perform engineering work, they also need a current Practising certificate. The practicing certificate allows a person to lawfully execute the works of an Engineer. The practicing certificate expires annually.
