Botswana - Obtain Livestock Producers Agent, Livestock Buyers and Livestock Buyers Agent Licenses or Permit

Apply In-Person
- The application to obtain a Livestock Producers Agent, Livestock Buyers, and Livestock Buyers Agent Licenses or Permit shall be made to the Department of Agribusiness Promotion office (APO), which is under the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security office.Agribusiness Promotion Office contact details.
- Individuals and companies who are interested in becoming Livestock Buyers, Agents, or Speculators should head to the nearest District Agribusiness Promotion Office (DAPO) and express their interest to the Agribusiness Promotion officer at the licensing and registration unit and submit the supporting documentation to be validated.
- The Applicant will be required to confirm the following details to the Authorized License Issuing Officer verbally for registration purposes:
- Confirm registration with BAITS for Keeper Identification
- Particulars for business or an individual
- The base location of the business
- District areas of livestock purchase
- Type of license required
- The applicant will then be required to pay the applicable fees as mentioned under the “Fees” section of this page and obtain a payment receipt.
- The application will then be issued with the relevant Application form by the License Issuing Officer. Copies of these forms are not available online.
- The application forms are duly completed in all respect, and the supporting documentation should be submitted to the licensing office.
- Upon receipt of the file, the licensing officer will then verify that all the necessary documentation and information have been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before registering the application file processing, which is one working day.
- Applicants will be issued with an acknowledge slip as proof of submission of the application.
- The license will be drawn up, signed, and stamped by the licensing officer and made available to be issued to the applicant.
- The applicant will be required to produce a proof of identity document, and acknowledgment slip when collecting the permit/license at the specific DAPO licensing unit, where the application was lodged.
- The Permit/license shall be subject to such terms and conditions as the Authorized licensing officer may deem fit to impose in each case, and such terms and conditions or requirements shall be endorsed on the permit/license.

- Original and valid Cattle Brand Certificate
- Original and valid Livestock keepers Identity
- Original and a valid Trading License (Butchery & Fresh produce)

FeesEdit
Livestock buyer’s license
- First-time owners deposit fee P200.00 (The fee is refundable upon termination of the license)
- The annual License Fee is P70.00
- The annual license renewal fee is P70.00 and P52.50 is paid up for license issued before and after the 30th of June in every year
Livestock Buyer’s Agent License
- License Fee 50.00
- Annual license renewal is P50.00 and P32.50 for a license issued after the 30th of June.
Livestock Producers’ Agent License
- The license fee is P500.00 and expires every 31 December
- Annual License renewal fee of P500.

Need for the DocumentEdit
Livestock Buyers License authorises its holder to purchase livestock for the purpose of trade in the country. I.e. acquisition of livestock for slaughter, meat processing plants, retailers, chain shops, for Botswana Meat Commission (BMC), and other markets, and this even include a farmer buying 50 or more breeding stock for the purposes of a ranch.

- A Livestock buyer’s Agent license is obtained by a buyer who is going to buy on behalf of someone who already has a livestock buyer’s license.
- Livestock Producers Agent license allows its holder to collect mobs of cattle from producers and send them to Botswana Meat Commission abattoirs on their behalf. A holder of this license is permitted to charge a commission of 2.5% on revenue realized from the sales as stipulated in the act for the services offered and not more than that.
