ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person

  1. The application for an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN), shall be made to the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development head office. Ministry contact details
  2. Applicants should express their interest to obtain the ISSN, at the receptionist desk. Submit the supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page, to be verified by the authorized official. Any omission of these documents will render the registration process incomplete.
  3. The officer will then proceed to apply on your behalf using the ISSN Portal and submit it, for processing and consideration by an international body based in Paris, which is within 10-20 working days.
  4. If approved the applicant is registered and assigned an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN), these numbers will be forwarded to the applicant's email.

  • National Identity Card ​(Omang)
  • A certified copy of passport bio page.
  • Only a copy of the title page showing the frequency of the serial and the editorial page must be submitted.

EligibilityEdit

Any individual (Authors, Self-Publishers, Editors, and Publishers) or publishing entity intending to publish their work in Botswana.

FeesEdit

  • An ISSN request shall cost between 25 € and 50 € {s.t.d cost) as per the country the publisher is located in. Service packages are also available on request.
  • The cost of an urgent request is double the cost of a standard assignment request


ValidityEdit

International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) is valid forever. However, an ISSN may be revoked if it comes to light that misleading information has been provided.

Processing TimeEdit

International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) is obtained from Paris and will take up to ten-twenty days from the date the completed application form and relevant documents are received.

Important Note:

  • When the book is ready for distribution, send two copies free to the Botswana National Library Service, this is a legal requirement covered under the National Library Act Chapter 58:02 section 10 under the laws of Botswana.
