Botswana - Obtain a Certificate of Fish Vessel Ownership

ProcedureEdit

All vessel either for crusing or fishing must be registered with the Government of Botswana, Boat registration process is applicable in the following two scenarios;

  • Registration of boats that are to be imported into Botswana
  • Registration of boats that are already in Botswana


Apply In Person:

Registration of boats that are to be imported into Botswana

  1. The owner of the boat/person concerned should visit the Department of Water and Sanitation /head office or Regional Offices to apply. Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services
  2. Applicants are required to collect and complete the APPLICATION FOR BOAT REGISTRATION AND IMPORT PERMIT FORM AVC 3}; Forms are available for free at the front desk at any of the Department of Water and Sanitation offices or directly download it using this Application For Boat Registration And Import Permit Form AVC 3
  3. Submit the completed Form AVC 3, attach to the following supporting documents (listed below), to the AVC unit at the nearest Department of Water and Sanitation office.
  4. The application is then assessed based on the information and documents that have been provided and if complying, you will be required to pay P44.00 and an Original import permit is issued, to be submitted at the port of entry.
  5. Upon entry at the port, the applicant is required to register the boat at the nearest AVC unit Department of Water and Sanitation /head office or Regional Offices  at a fee of P44.00 and obtain a registration certificate, which will have a registration number to be displayed on the boat and this is the number to be used for the identification of the boat.
  6. Upon request by the applicant, the boat is sprayed and inspected at an applicable fee of BWP 44.00 and the applicant will be issued with a boat spraying and inspection report


Registration of boats that are already in Botswana

  1. The owner of the boat/person concerned should visit the Department of Water and Sanitation /head office or Regional Offices to apply.
  2. Applicants are required to collect and complete form AVC1- APPLICATION FOR BOAT REGISTRATION AVC 1}. Forms are available for free at the front desk at any of the Department of Water and Sanitation offices or directly download it using this link; Application For Boat Registration Form AVC 1
  3. Submit the completed form attached to the following supporting documents (listed below) to be verified by the AVC unit officer and pay the registration fee.
  4. Once the registration fee has been paid, the AVC unit officer will register the boat and the applicant is issued with a registration certificate, which will have a registration number to be displayed on the boat and this is the number to be used for the identification of the boat.
  5. Upon request by the applicant, the boat is sprayed and inspected at an applicable fee of BWP 44.00 and the applicant will be issued with a boat spraying and inspection report

All boats imported and used in Botswana must be registered with the Government of Botswana;The service entails the following:

  • Issuing registration certificates to all boats in Botswana.
  • Issuing import permits to boats entering Botswana.
  • Issuing inter-zonal permits to boats moving between zones. Zones are demarcated surface water bodies or rivers. Botswana is divided into six zones: Chobe, Okavango, Marico, Limpopo, Kwando Linyanti, and Nata.
  • Performing boat inspections and spraying.
