- To apply for the Poverty Eradication Programme, an applicant should visit the Social and Community Development unit at the District Councils and Sub District Council District office in their area; with supporting documents and express their interest in accessing benefits under the Poverty Eradication Programme. - The Social welfare officer will then verify that all the necessary documentation has been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before registering the project that the applicant intends to do.
- Based on the information provided, the Social welfare Officer will visit the project site to determine the eligibility and assess the suitability of the requested project, at an agreed time with the applicant.
- If the officer determines that the site is not suitable for the project, the applicant is advised and guided through a more suitable project.
- Recommendation from the Social Welfare Officer and the application file will then be forwarded to the committee responsible for poverty eradication in each district or sub-district for further assessment and processing.
- Upon receipt of the application file, the committee will evaluate it and send its recommendation either to approve or reject the request to the Head of Social Welfare office for final decision making.
- Approved applicants will be registered as beneficiaries of the program and notified of the outcome by phone or in-person by the Social and Community Development office, where the application was filed and given further instruction.
- Beneficiaries of the program will then be taken through a pre-funding training program by selected service providers for which the government pays.
- The Social Welfare Department will disburse the funds based on Proposal/recommendations by the committee after training and also monitor the project.

EligibilityEdit
Applicants who meet the following requirements are eligible;
- Botswana citizen aged 18 years and above.
- Able to undertake the project they select.
- Earning or living on a monthly income not more than P300.00 (USD 1.25/day).
- Earning seasonal, occasional, or temporary income such as under the Ipelegeng program.
- Having spouses not earning monthly income above P300.00, unless such income is seasonal, occasional, or temporary.
- Having livestock units not exceeding six (6) cows/ or fifteen (15) small stock.
- Should be a beneficiary of the Poverty Eradication Programme or other government programs who have suffered severe loss of assets or livestock due to disease or other natural disasters as verified by the Ministry responsible for the related project
