ProcedureEdit

Apply In Person

  1. To apply for a Livestock Buyer License, the applicant should visit the nearest District Animal Production Office. (Please view contact and address details below).
  2. Express your interest to the authorized officer and present the supporting documents (as mentioned under the required documents section below) to be validated.
  3. You will then be required to verbally provide to the authorized officer, the following information to be registered and recorded;
    • Particulars for business or individual
    • List of locations where livestock trade will be undertaken
    • Specify the purpose of trade be it for stocking/butcheries or retail stores
  4. The officer will then verify, if all the necessary information and documents have been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria, if everything is in order, you will then be required to pay the license fee.
  5. The authorized official will then draw-up the livestock buyer license, sign, and stamp it, and then issued it to the applicant immediately.

  • Trading license for registered companies
  • Proof of financial capability

  • All livestock Buyers or speculators in Botswana


FeesEdit

Charges for attaining livestock buyer’s license

  • Pay deposit of P200.00
  • Pay license renewal fee of P70.00 and P52.50 is paid up for license issued after the 30th of June in every year.
  • In the case of Livestock Buyer’s Agent License, an applicant is required to pay P50.00 for an annual license and P32.50 for a license issued after the 30th of June.


ValidityEdit

  • Livestock Buyer’s License is valid for twelve (12) calendar months from the date of issue and can be renewed just a few days before the expiry date.

Important Notes:

  • The administrative processing of the Livestock Buyer’s License has been transferred from the Ministry of Local Government to that of Agriculture with effect from the financial year 1st of April, 2007.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • All livestock Buyers or speculators in Botswana are required by law (Control of Livestock Industry Act CAP.36.01) to be holders of current Livestock Buyer’s License, in order to purchase or otherwise acquire livestock for the purpose of trade.


Holders of Livestock Buyer’s License are required to;

  • Register the livestock buyers license with local Chiefs and district commissioner
  • Produce livestock sales report every month to district agricultural offices
  • Produce license together with valid identity card when required at the Kgotla
