Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. Applicants are required to respond to the placement of the notice for Government Sponsorship submission opening through various communication/advertising media by the Department of Tertiary Financing (DTEF) office that falls under the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology. 2. Collect and complete the Government Sponsorship Application Form, available at the Department of Tertiary Financing office front desk for free or directly download it using this link; Application Form for Tertiary Education.
3. The applicant will be required to submit the certified true copies of the supporting documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, in addition to the duly completed application form in all respect to the Department of Tertiary Financing (DTEF) office. Any omission of these documents will render the registration process incomplete.
4. Upon receipt of the application file, the receptionist will verify if all the necessary information and documentation has been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before registering the file for assessment and consideration by the DTEF placement Division coordinates sponsorship office, which is usually within 10 working days.
5. Applicants will be issued with an acknowledgment letter as proof of submission of the application.
6. Notice of the decision (Approval, Deferral, or Rejection) for the application will be communicated to the client by SMS, email, or any relevant contact method preferable by the client.
7. If successful, Applicant details will then be captured in Student Loan Management System (SLMS) and the placement officer appends signature as a witness in the Loan Agreement.
8. The placement officer generates a Sponsorship Letter from SLMS, which will be manually signed by the Head of Division and made available to be issued to the applicant.
9. The applicant will be required to produce a proof of identity document and the approval letter/acknowledgment slip when collecting the Sponsorship Letter and made to sign a Loan Agreement Form, at the DTEF office, where the application was lodged.
10. The Sponsorship will be subjected to terms and condition as the DTEF deem fit and there will be mentioned on the Loan Agreement form/letter.

• Admission letter clearly showing the name of the program and its duration
• A Certified copy of a valid National Identification card (Omang)
• Certified copy of High School results/certificate or Statement Results
• Affidavit of names in the case where names are different between certificate and Omang
• Social Inquiry Report from Social Workers in case of OVC applicant-those with less than 36 points
• Confirmation Letter on social status in those less than 36 points
• Confirmation Letter on RAC status in case of RAC applicant
• Detailed Assessment Report from Special Education Department in case of SEN applicant

Eligibility

To qualify for a Government scholarship applicant should meet the following criteria;
For New Students;

• Applicants must be able to complete the program of study before turning thirty-five (35) years of age.
• The cut-off point for Government sponsorship is 36 points for Secondary Education.
• Candidates who have upgraded their results must also have a minimum of 36 points.
• Orphan & Vulnerable Children (OVC), Rural Area Children (RAC), Special Education Needs (SEN) with minimum cut-off points of 31. - Applicants under this category should be certified and registered with the Social Welfare Office.
  

For Progression Students;

• Progression consideration is based on recognition of prior learning.
• Prospective applicants must have completed lower qualifications not less than three years (3) at the time of applying except for Masters in Psychology and must be able to complete the program of study by the age of thirty-five (35) or below.
• Consideration for sponsorship is STRICTLY limited to the prioritized fields of study as per the sponsorship cycle.
  

For Re-sponsorship Students; (NB - Target group is determined as per re-sponsorship cycle)

• Students NOT currently under the sponsorship
• All outstanding modules/subjects should be completed within one (1) academic year at the most.
• The students must not have previously benefited from re-sponsorship.
• Some students would have been terminated due to poor academic performance but have sponsored themselves to pass all the failed modules/ subjects or have passed relevant years after the change of course. These students must also satisfy the following conditions;
• The student should have passed ALL outstanding modules.
• Where the student changed courses, he/she must have sponsored themselves for the same number of years as he/she was sponsored by Government.
• The student should submit a complete academic transcript.
• A financial statement, which states that the student does not have any outstanding debts with the institution or a letter from the institution stating that the student has no outstanding fees.
  

For Top Achievers Students; (NB-Criteria is subject to change as per sponsorship cycle)

• Applicants should have attained at least any of the following grades:
• 6A*s at BGCSE/IGCSE
• 3A's at AS
• 3A's at A Levels
• 4 (7) at Matric
• The qualifying applicants will be placed in local institutions for A-Level/IBD Program or directly into Top Tier Universities internationally.
  

Fees

No fee associate with the service.

Validity

The validity of the government sponsorship will depend on the course duration ( program study). However, the government reserve the right to terminate the sponsorship;
Where the government receives an unsatisfactory report from the institution on the conduct, the work, and progress of the student, which indicate that the student is not likely to successfully complete the program of study.

The beneficiaries of the Government Sponsorship (students) are required to study diligently to compete the program of study with the time prescribed for the preferable program of study.

Need for the Document

• Tertiary Education student sponsorship are financial assistance issued to beneficiaries (students) by the government to enable them to further their education level (PhD, postgraduate, Undergraduate.
• The scholarship range from fully funded to limited support or tuition fee waiver as determined by the Placement Division coordinates sponsorship award criteria, that selects applicants (beneficiaries) and places them into reputable accredited institutions approved by the relevant accrediting bodies.
