Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. One is required to write a request application letter to the District Ministry of Agriculture and department of veterinary service (DVS) is then made aware of the request for consideration and undertaking of due process of complying with requirements of the importing country
2. Accurately fill in the request form and application form, which can be obtain from the above offices or click the link below download (request form)&(application form)
3. Attach all the required documents and submit them for verification and processing.
4. If the authorized officer is satisfied that you have complied with the all conditions as set for the application of the permit,
5. you will be issued with an authority letter from the Minister of Agriculture and DVS will then issue an export permit on the basis of import conditions of the importing country within 24hrs of receipt of the approval letter to the permits office

Instructions

• Live animals either domesticated or wild may be imported into Botswana from other specified countries under certain conditions. These conditions are stipulated in a veterinary import permit (VIP) and the imported animals should be subjected to these requirements.
• The requirements include among others disease freedom, quarantining, treatments, vaccinations and laboratory tests. The animals that qualify for export are then issued with an export health certificate detailing the type, identification and number of animals, owner details, transportation route and vehicle registration, port of exit and any other details that are required by Botswana
