General public is informed by the government through advertising media outlets i.e. Botswana Government Gazette, The Daily News and Privately owned newspapers on availability of state land of both residential and non- residential plots.
Apply In-Person
- The application process for Botswana and Botswana-owned companies (residential plots):
- You should contact either of the two regional land offices for more information on the application process.
- Application forms can be obtained from the two regional land offices or click the link below to download it Residential Application Form A and B.
- Completed forms and attached copies of required documents should be posted to STATE LAND APPLICATIONS, PRIVATE BAG 00128, GABORONE
- Your application will be verified and processed by the department of lands, you will then be issued an application reference number and your application will be placed on the State Land Integrated Management System (SLIMS) waiting list.
- When plots are available, and the land department is satisfied that you have complied with all the requirement’s as set for the allocation of the state land, you will be issued with provisional offer letters
- The application process for Foreign entities and non-Botswana (non-residential plots):
- You should contact either the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) or the Ministry of Agriculture for more information on how to file the application with them.
Note:
If the land in question is agricultural land, the tender is evaluated by the Ministry of Agriculture in conjunction with the department of lands

The following documents are required for residential plot applications:
- Residential Application Form A and B - Application for first or second residential plot in any urban area (individuals only).
- Certified copy of National Identity Card (Omang).
The following documents are required for non-residential plot applications:
- A completed tender proposal in line with the specifications found in the advertisements.

- There are no administrative fees for this service
Note
- Prices for plots of land depend on their use (residential or non-residential) and location. If land is leased, rental charges will apply.
- Non-residential plots allocated through the invention to tender (ITT) process require payment of a tender purchase fee.
- Plots are to be paid for and developed within two years from the date of formal offer.

- This process can be completed in approximately six months from the date of submission of an application. Deadlines for application for specific plots are outlined in the advertisements.

InstructionsEdit
- Foreign entities and non-Botswana bringing foreign direct investment (FDI) are eligible for an allocation of non-residential plots.
- Residential plots are allocated through a waiting list process through the State Land Integrated Management System (SLIMS).
- Non-residential plots (commercial, industrial and civic and community plots) are allocated by way of a tender process through the preparation of an Invitation to Tender (ITT).
- Allocation of land can be in the form of outright purchase or leasing. Applicants who are allocated land through outright purchase will be granted a title deed as evidence of their right upon payment of the plot purchase price. Where land is allocated on a lease basis, a memorandum of lease agreement will be entered into between the Government and the allottee.

State land are located by the ministry of land or different land issuing authorized authority in Botswana to enable Batswana or foreigners to be able to lease or buy land and be granted a title deed or memorandum of lease agreement as proof of legally ownership or lease.
