Bhutan - Apply for Citizenship Identity (CID) Card

ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for a Citizenship Identity Card (CID) in Bhutan, the applicant must visit the Department of Civil Registration and Census Head Office, any Dzongkhag Civil Registration and Census Offices or Thromde Civil Registration and Census Offices to make the application.
  2. The address and contact information for the Department of Civil Registration and Census Offices can be found in the “Office Locations & Contacts” of this page Or through the following Link, Link 2 and Link 3
  3. Upon visiting the Department of Civil Registration and Census Offices and the applicant will be given a Citizenship Identity Card application by the officers present to fill and submit.
    • Applicants between the age of 15 – 17 years will be given form No. BCRS-CID/SRC-01 link.
    • Applicants above the age of 18 years will be given form No. BCRS-CID/SRC-02 link.
  4. The applicant should then complete the application form with appropriate information under relevant sections. Attest the form with your signature once completed. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  5. Submit the duly filled forms and required documents to Civil Registration and Census Official (CRCO). A list of the required documents can be found in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  6. The application will be reviewed and verified by Civil Registration and Census Officials. After reviewing and verification of the application the CRCO will hand back the application form to the applicant.
  7. The applicant should then take the verified application form to the revenue counter and make payment of Nu. 100.
  8. Upon making the payment you will be issued with a revenue receipt.
  9. The applicant should then take the verified application form along with the revenue receipt to the CRCO who will update the applicants details into the Bhutan Civil Registration System and capture the applicants biometrics and submit the details to the Bhutan Civil Registration System.
  10. Upon submission, an SMS alert with an Application Verification Number will be sent to the applicant's mobile number for verification.
  11. The CRCO will enter the verification number into the Bhutan Civil Registration System for approval.
  12. Upon entering the verification number the application will be verified and approved in the system.
  13. Upon approval the CRCO will begin the process printing of CID card.
  14. The applicant will be given a claim receipt by the CRCO and asked to book for an appointment to collect the CID card after a period of two days. The applicant can book an appointment for collection through the following Appointment Booking Link
  15. On the collection date the applicant will have to produce the claim receipt when collecting their CID card.

Required DocumentsEdit

  1. Duly completed CID Card application form No.BCRS-CID/SRC-01
  2. Obtain signatures of Gup/Thromde Representative/Thromde Tshogpa, DCRCO/TCRCO and Dzongdag/Executive Secretary as per the CID card application form No. BCRS-CID/SRC-02 . (for individuals above 18 years of age)
  3. One recent passport size photograph (in national dress and white background)
  4. One legal stamp
  5. Original Health card/MCH book used during the initial registration in the BCRS

OR

  1. Original Citizenship Kasho for those registered through Naturalization
  2. In the absence of the Original Health card/MCH book or the Original Citizenship Kasho, the signature of Gup/Thromde Representative/Thromde Tshogpa on the form needs to be obtained and submitted.
  3. Verification report of Gup and Tshogpa stating reasons for late reporting to process cards if you are reporting to process new CID upon completing 25 years of age.

EligibilityEdit

  • Any Bhutanese citizen registered in the Bhutan Civil Registration System and has completed 15 years of age is eligible to apply for the Citizenship Identity Card.



FeesEdit

  • A card fee of Nu. 100 is charged at the time of processing the card.

  • The CID/SR card is valid for 10 years.
