- Go to the Social Security Office in your area to register.
- Present all required documents and fill in all necessary forms.
Required DocumentsEdit
Citizen of Belize by Birth (present original copies of any of the following):
- Birth Certificate
- Belizean Passport (valid or expired)
- New Voters Identification Card (Colored Photo)
- Any legal documents issued by the Registrar General, Vital Statistics Unit (VSU)
Notes:
Foreign passports presented by Born Belizeans are to be used only as a secondary verification document, i.e. for Identification purposes.
If a married womans verification document is not in her married name and she wishes to have her Social Security card with her married name, a marriage certificate must also be presented.

- Note: Except for those permits that are stamped on the holders Passports, a Passport, Documento Personal de Identificacion (DPI) or Birth Certificate from country of origin.
- Undocumented Foreign Born Individuals:
- Passport
- Documento Personal de Identificacion (DPI)
- Birth Certificate accompanied by a photo identification card (ID)
Notes:
Persons born in any of the Commonwealth Countries and have resided in Belize for no less than 12 months are eligible to obtain a voters identification card. Therefore, persons born in any of the Commonwealth Countries who present only a voters identification card must also present a legal work document issued by the Immigration and Nationality Department in order for the card to bear the legend Valid for Employment.
The fathers surname will be used by Social Security in cases where persons present documents with two surnames.

EligibilityEdit
- Citizens of Belize by birth
- Foreign-born staying in Belize legally. These are individuals who are holders of of a Belize Passport, Citizenship by Decent, Nationality Certificate, Permanent Resident (PR) Card, Belize Tourism Board (B.T.B) Card, CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) Certificate or Stamp, Refugee Card, Condition Stamp, Special Permit, Temporary Work Permit, Dependent Permit or Student (Pass) Permit are legally required to register themselves and their dependents.
- All undocumented Foreign-born persons do not qualify for a Social Security card, except for those who have contributed to the Social Security Scheme prior to the year 2000 and are entitled to or are receiving a Long-term or Disablement pension under the Social Security Act.

Citizens of Belize are required by law to register with Social Security from birth. Belizeans who do not have a Social Security number or valid Social Security card are mandated by law to report at any of the Social Security Offices to register themselves and their dependents.

Obligations of All Social Security Card Holders
- Register themselves and their dependents with Social Security by furnishing accurate and complete information and documentation on themselves and their dependents.
- Renew their Social Security card on the expiration date, or whenever required by Social Security and provide updated personal information as required on the application form.
- Report any change in name or immigration status and present legal documents related to the change.
- Sign all appropriate forms.
- Keep Social Security cards in a safe place for themselves and their dependent children under age 14. All Social Security cards shall remain the property of the Social Security Board and will be valid for a period of 10 years or such shorter periods, as authorized by the Social Security Board.
- Not to tamper with any Social Security card or photocopy the card. The original card must contain un-amended full name, registration number, and such other particulars as stipulated by the Board.
- Bring the registration cards at all times and produce the cards to their prospective employer when applying for a job.
- Be able to present the Social Security card to any authorized Social Security Officer, Health Care Provider or any other official authorized by Social Security upon request.
- Immediately notify the nearest Social Security Office when their Social Security card, or that of any dependent, is defaced or expired. The defaced or expired card must also be returned to the Social Security office.
- Immediately report any lost, stolen or destroyed cards to the nearest Police Station.
- Not to keep registration cards belonging to another person, except that of their dependent children under age 14 and other dependent persons unable to act on their own behalf.
- Return to the nearest Social Security Office any lost or stolen cards found.
- Notify the Social Security Office in case you found someone using a Social Security number and/or Social Security card belonging to someone else.
- Turnover to the nearest Social Security Office, the Social Security card of any deceased insured contributor in the family.
