Procedure

In Person

1. Go to a local DMV office.
2. Fill up the renewal form sent to you or the Vehicle Registration/Title Application (MV-82) form.
3. Present the required documents.
4. Pay the fee.

By Mail

1. Complete the bottom part of your registration renewal notice (MV-3) or use the Vehicle Registration/Title Application (MV-82).
2. Mail the form and include a personal check or money order payable to 'Commissioner of Motor Vehicles' to:
   NYS DMV Port Jefferson Office
   3 Roads Plaza
   1055 Route 112
   Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776.

Online

1. You can use the driver license renewal service or sign up for MyDMV and use the My License status, renewal and replacement service if you need to change your address before you renew.

Instructions

• Your vehicle registration can be renewed online, by mail, or at a DMV office.
• Allow 10 days for your new registration documents to arrive in the mail.
• You cant renew a registration that is suspended, revoked, expired for more than 1 year, or has not been inspected in the past 12 months.
• A renewal notice (MV-3) will be send 45 to 60 days before your registration expires.
