ProcedureEdit

On-Line

  1. Click link - nyc.gov/healthpermits, select the license type of license you are applying for.
  2. Gather all supporting documentation that must be submitted along with the application and create electronic versions of your supporting documents.
  3. When you are ready start your online application, register an account with the NYC Online Licensing system.
  4. Complete the required information online, upload your supporting documents and submit payment. Note: Payment accepted: Credit/Debit Cards only.


Apply In Person

  1. Obtain an application packet by:
    1. Calling 311 and asking for Mobile Food Vendor License Application.
    2. Go to the Citywide Licensing Center at 42 Broadway
    3. Download application forms and instructions - see 'Documents to Use' section
  2. Gather all documents you will need to present or submit.
  3. Complete the Application for a Permit form and the Supplemental Forms.
  4. Submit the Application form, Supplemental Forms, and all supporting documents, along with your payment, to: DCA Licensing Center, 42 Broadway, Manhattan. Office Hours: M, Tu, Th, Fr: 9 am 5 pm; Th: 8:30 5 pm. Note: Payment Accepted: Money Order, Credit/Debit Cards, Checks (no cash accepted)

Required DocumentsEdit

Prerequisites:

  • Proof of home mailing address for the individual to whom the license will be issued ("the applicant"). For samples of accepted documents see 'Documents to Use' section.
  • The applicant's Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN).
  • A valid government issued photo ID of the applicant (e.g., driver's license, passport, employment authorization card)
  • New York State Certificate of Sales Tax Authority.
  • New York City Environmental Control Board Clearance is required to determine that there are no Health Code or New York City Administrative Code violations issued to the applicant for which outstanding fines are due.
  • A Child Support Enforcement Form is required to establish that the applicant is not in arrears of any Child Support Payment Agreement. *
  • All applicants for a Mobile Food Vending License must pass the Food Protection Course exam for Mobile Food Vendors before applying for the license.
  • There is no license fee if the applicant presents proof of honorable discharge from the U.S. Armed Services in the form of a New York State Peddler's Certificate or Form DD-214 (discharge document) from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This benefit is also available to a surviving spouse or domestic partner of a veteran with this proof.

EligibilityEdit

The Mobile Food Vending License is issued to an individual who will sell food from a permitted mobile food vending unit (truck or pushcart).



FeesEdit

License fees:

  • Full-term (2 year) (License Code H05): $50.00
  • Seasonal (April 1 - October 31) (License Code H01): $10.00

There is no fee for an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Armed Services or the surviving spouse or domestic partner of such veteran.


Training fee:

  • Mobile Food Vendor Food Protection Course: $53.00

Payment for the course must be submitted separately from the payment for the license application.



ValidityEdit

A full-term license will expire two years from the end of the month in which the applicant applied. A seasonal license will expire on October 31 of each year, regardless of when the applicant applied.

Need for the DocumentEdit

A Mobile Food Vendor Personal License is a photo ID badge that will permit you to run a food-selling business from a pushcart or truck, either year-round or seasonally. This license is required prior to applying for a Mobile Food Vending Permit (inspection decal), which is issued for the food vending unit (truck or pushcart) that will be operated. There are no waiting lists to apply for the Mobile Food Vending License, but there are waiting lists to apply for the Mobile Unit Permit.
