ProcedureEdit

  1. Check the license class table and the minimum driving experience requirements for the license you need. There are five heavy vehicle classes:
    1. light or medium rigid vehicles (LR and MR class licenses)
    2. heavy rigid or heavy combination (HR and HC class licenses)
    3. multi-combination (MC class license)
  2. If you hold a current driver's license and meet the minimum driving experience requirements for the desired license class, you can drive a motor vehicle of that class without a learner's permit - but only under learners permit conditions and laws.
  3. If you don't meet the minimum driving experience requirements for the desired license class, you may be able to obtain a learners permit for that class by:
    1. applying for an exemption or restricted license, or
    2. passing a training-in-lieu-of-experience course.
