ProcedureEdit

Online

  • For those who do not need to undergo an eye test, you may renew your licence online.
  • You will to need to use the transaction number found on the upper, right hand side of your current renewal notice.
  • Your driver licence will be posted to your current address. Your licence renewal is effective from the time your payment is accepted.


Renew By Phone

You can renew by phone if:

  • You are a Northern Territory resident
  • The Motor Vehicle Registry has your digital photograph recorded
  • You are not due to have an eye sight test
  • You are not required to undergo a medical examination or criminal history check
  • Your licence is not suspended or cancelled
  • A Transaction Number is printed on the upper right hand side of your renewal notice


Renew by Mail

For those unable to go to a Motor Vehicle Registry to renew their license, you may renew your licence by mail, together with the relevant fees and documentation to.

Requirements for a licence renewal:

  • Surrender your NT drivers licence;
  • Provide two colour passport photographs verified on the reverse side as being a true likeness of yourself;
  • An eyesight test from an Optometrist or General Practitioner if required; and
  • Proof of residency (if necessary)
  • If renewing a National Heavy Vehicle Driver licence, you must surrender your licence as proof of identification, or provide a birth certificate or passport.


Renew in Person

  1. Go to a MVR office to renew your licence. MVR Locations
  2. Bring all the required documents.
  3. Pay the renewal fee.

Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR) Customer Service Centre

MVR has Customer Service Centres throughout the Northern Territory.
For those living in a remote locality, or outstation you may go to your nearest Police Station.
