ProcedureEdit

  1. Go to a Canberra Connect Shopfront or the Civic Driver License Service to upgrade your license.
  2. Complete the application form.

  3. Pass the computerized knowledge test.
  4. Pass the practical driving assessment for the class of license they want to upgrade.

EligibilityEdit

  • To upgrade to a higher class of license there is a minimum period that the current license is to be held.

LR - hold a class C license or equivalent for at least 1 year
MR - hold a class C license or equivalent license for at least 1 year
HR - hold a class C, license or equivalent license for at least 2 years
HC - hold a class MR or HR license or equivalent license for at least 1 year
MC - hold a class HR or HC license or equivalent license for at least 1 year

  • The applicant must pass the appropriate computerized knowledge test before attempting a practical driving assessment for the class of license they are seeking.

InstructionsEdit

  • People who are learning to drive must be accompanied by a person who holds a current, full license class for the type of vehicle being used for tuition or a higher license class. The tutor must have held that higher class of license for at least 1 year.
  • The tutor is to supervise the learner with respect to the driving of the vehicle. All learner drivers are required to display "L" plates on their vehicles.
