ProcedureEdit

It is an affidavit on stamp paper written and signed by your close relatives, e.g. Parents or Brother. In this affidavit, a family member will state that Mr.XYZ Son/Daughter of Mr. ABC is not currently married.

  • It is advisable to follow the guidelines that certain local registry offices deem necessary.
  • Those wishing to marry overseas will need special documentation.
  • First, couples will have to present a declaration that is processed by your local office where marriage documents are produced.
  • A search is conducted by the registry office to find out if the applicant is presently married.
  • If the results show that you are not married the registry office will issue a certificate stating that at present there are no records of a current marriage involving the applicant.

The registrar will check the records for any registration of any marriage.

If the results indicate that you are not currently in any marriage you will be issued with a Certificate of Marital Status (Single Status Certificate)

EligibilityEdit

All Single Status Certificates applications must be from the person to be named on the certificate. Other applicants will need written authorization from the person to be named on the certificate.

This is a declaration (also known as a Marital Status document) issued by the relevant authority in your country stating that:

  • You are single and not currently married.
  • That there are no legal obstacles or issues preventing you from getting married.

You can obtain this document from the Register Office in your area.

This certificate can also be prepared with a solicitor as an Affidavit. Once this document is issued, there is usually a three months time limit on its validity. In such case, this document should be obtained no longer than three months before the wedding�s date.

A Certificate of Single Status is issued for the purpose of marrying overseas. It proves that you have not married in Akrotiri during a specified period of years.

It is advisable to follow the guidelines that certain authorities deem necessary. Those wishing to marry overseas will need special documentation. First, couples will have to present a declaration that is processed by your local office where marriage documents are produced. This must be from the state where you live in Akrotiri. On this statement will be recorded the fact that there has not be any marriage in recent years.

Need for the DocumentEdit

This certificate is recognized as legal proof that a person has not been married in Akrotiri. Some countries' authorities require this certificate when you get married overseas.


Information which might helpEdit

Any person who willfully makes or inserts any false statement in any declaration, certificate or other document required by the Law to be made or issued, shall be liable to imprisonment for any term not exceeding two years.

If the required documents are issued in another language than Arabic, English or French, please provide an official translation (by a sworn translator) of this document in one of these three languages.


Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

This certificate is one of the required documents when getting married.

It is a government document that provides information saying that a search has been conducted and no record of marriage has surfaced.

Please note, that the most civil registries don�t accept affidavits as certificates of marital status. A certificate from the local authorities or the county clerks office is necessary with the statement, that there is no marriage registered.
