Cancel a Registration:
- Obtain a Cancellation Form and complete the Registration Data portion of the form. Do not forget to have all parties listed on the registration sign in this area. Note: If there are exceptional circumstances where you cannot obtain all signatures, call 624-9000, ext 52149 for guidance.
- Have the Cancellation Form notarized. This can be done at any notary public location or a Motor Vehicle branch office.
- Go to a Branch Office of the Bureau of Motor Vehicle (BMV).
- Submit the form, registration certification and plates. Or you can mail it at the BMV Main office. If available, turn the plates and registration certificate in with the form.
- The branch manager or main office staff will sign the form and provide/mail a copy to you to use as proof you have cancelled the registration.
- If you mailed the form to BMV, be sure to include a current mailing address.
- Note: Once the Bureau cancels a registration, the excise tax and registration fees are non-transferable unless reactivated.
Activate a Cancelled Registration:
- Print a copy of the Activation Form and complete the Registration Data portion of the form. Do not forget to have all parties listed on the registration sign in this area. Note: If there are exceptional circumstances where you cannot obtain all signatures, call 624-9000, ext 52149 for guidance.
- Have the Activation Form notarized. This can be done at any notary public location or a Motor Vehicle branch office.
- Submit the form at a branch office or mail it to BMVs main office.
- The branch manager or main office staff will sign the form and provide/mail a copy to you to use as proof you have activated the registration. If you mailed the form to BMV, be sure to include a current mailing address.
- If you have not exceeded the registration period and did not surrender your plates and registration, you will be cleared to use the registration.
- If you did surrender your plates and registration, you will be provided with a corrected registration and replacement plates.
