Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. The applicant willing to apply for tourists vehicle permit should submit an application form to the Transport Authority under whose jurisdiction the vehicle is registered or any other authority authorised by the state/UT in this behalf.
2. The applicant can download the application form from the below link and submit it to the Transport Authority officer.

4. The Transport Authority may inspect the vehicle to ensure that it is compliant with the regulations and is road worthy.
5. The Transport Authority may reject the application for good and sufficient reasons to be recorded in writing. Before rejecting an application, an opportunity shall be given to the applicant to substantiate the application.
6. If no decision is taken by the Transport Authority within 30 days of the application, the permit shall be deemed to have been granted and generated through electronic system.
7. A web based electronic system shall be developed to facilitate the filing of application, online payment and issue of permits.
   
   

Apply Online:

1. To apply for tourist vehicle permit (Jeep/Omni/Car), the applicant has to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways: Link to Portal
2. In the homepage, please scroll down to “Informational Services” and click on the “more” button in the “Citizen Guide” tab.
3. The applicant will be taken to the “Manual” page where all the available services will be listed.
4. Please click on the name of the required service and click on “Step by Step procedure” from the drop down menu.
5. The applicant will be taken to a new PDF page where the process for applying will be explained clearly.
6. Please follow the steps to complete the application.

• Proof of payment of tax for the current quarter.
  
• Insurance Certificate.
  
• No object certificate from the financier if the vehicle concerned is covered by HPA / Lease / Hypothecation.

Eligibility

• You should be the owner of the vehicle.
  
• The age of the vehicle should not exceed 2 years

Validity

A tourist vehicle permit shall be valid for...

• 9 years in the case of a motor cab (passenger not exceeding 6 excluding driver)
• 8 years for vehicles other than a motor cab
• In case of a vehicle covered by a tourist permit is proposed to be replaced by another vehicle, the new vehicle age should not be more than two years
• The age of the vehicle is also considered to restrict the validity of the permit

NOTE: The period [9 years or 8 years] shall be computed from the date of initial registration of the motor vehicle.

Need for the Document

• As per Central Motor Vehicle Rules of 1989, Tourist Vehicle Permit is granted to owners whose vehicles are used for tourism purposes.
  
• Tourist Vehicle Permit (Jeep/Omni/Car) is needed for a tourist vehicle operator for the vehicle to carry passengers on a rental basis from one place to another
  
• These motor vehicles are constructed or adapted to carry allowed number of passengers as per permit, but not more than the allowed number of passengers, excluding the driver for hire purpose
