Procedure

In Person

• Visit the District Court Clerks' Office in the county where the divorce was granted.
• Request a copy of divorce certificate from the clerk.
• Provide the full information as much as you can about the divorce record.

By Mail

• Mail a written letter with a self-addressed stamped envelope and a copy of your government issued photo identification to the clerks of Districts offices in the county where the divorce was granted.

• A state issued Driver's License that includes a photograph

By Iowa state law, Iowa Divorce certificates are confidential records and can only be obtained by the following authorized individuals:

• Person Named on the Iowa Divorce Certificate
• Mother/Father (or Legal Guardian) of Person Named on the Iowa Divorce Certificate
• Grandparent of individual named on the Iowa Divorce certificate
• Husband/Wife of Person Named on the Iowa Divorce Certificate
• Son/Daughter of Person Named on the Iowa Divorce Certificate
• Grandchild of individual named on the Iowa Divorce certificate
• Sister/Brother of Person Named on the Iowa Divorce Certificate
