Procedure

Apply by Mail

1. To Obtain Re-entry Permit in Alabama, the applicant has to mail the completed application form and supporting documents to the U.S Citizen and Immigration service link

   Note: Use the chart below in the link to determine where the applicant must file their Form I-131, Application for Travel Document. Applications that are not submitted to the appropriate direct filing address may experience processing delays.

2. The applicant has to click and download the application form in the following link
3. Applicant has to fill in all necessary details in the application form (Incomplete application forms are not accepted).
4. Make sure the applicant has to attach all the documents that are mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page.

   Note: Don’t forget to sign the form. The authority will reject any unsigned form.

5. Fee to obtain re- entry permit is mentioned in the “Fees” section of this page.
6. The applicant can make the payment via money order or by certified check. If the applicant wishes to pay the fee via credit card the applicant must complete the credit card form link.
7. To receive an email or text message when we have received your form, complete Form G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance, and clip it to the front of your application. link

• A copy of an official photo identity document.
• Evidence that you are a lawful permanent resident.
• A copy of the front and back of Permanent Resident Card (also known as a Green Card or a Form I-551).
• A copy of the biographic pages of passport and a copy of the visa page showing your initial admission as a lawful permanent resident.
• A copy of the Form I-797, Notice of Action, approval notice of your application to replace Permanent Resident Card (also known as a Green Card or a Form I-551) or

Eligibility

• Lawful permanent residents or conditional permanent residents who plan to travel outside the United States for more than one year, but less than two years, may apply for a Re-entry Permit.

Fees

The fee to obtain re-entry permit is

• 13 or younger - $575
• 14 to 79 – filling fee - $575 + biometric services- $85 = $660
• 80 or older - $575

Validity

• Re-entry Permit issued to a lawful permanent resident is valid for 2 years from the date of issuance. However, if the applicant has been outside the United States for more than 4 of the last 5 years since becoming a lawful permanent resident, the permit will be limited to 1 year.
