Apply In-Person:
- To Apply for Parent Insurance Benefits (SSA), the applicant has to approach the U.S Social Security Administration link. Enter the Zip Code and click the “Locate” button to check the regional address.
- The applicant has to get the form from the respective department or use the following link to download the form link
- Applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the form and attach the photocopies of the documents that are needed along with the application form before submitting.
- The Applicant should make sure to carry all the documents that are mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page (Both photocopies and originals).
- Fee for this procedure is free of cost.
- Once completed, the applicant should submit the Form to U.S Social Security Administration department office.
- Concerned authorities will look into the application form and the document.
- upon successful completion the authority will issue the insurance benefits by visiting the office.
- The processing time of this procedure takes up to 1 to 2 weeks.

- To Apply for Parent Insurance Benefits (SSA), the applicant can also apply by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).
- Give the information to the respective officer.
- If any documents are needed, the applicant has to submit the documents that are mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page.

- The respective authority will intimate the further details in phone call.

- Proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful alien status, if the applicant were not born in the United States
- U.S. military discharge paper(s) if the applicant had military service before 1968
- W-2 forms(s) and/or self-employment tax returns for last year and

EligibilityEdit
To be eligible for this benefit program, the applicant must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be at least age 62.
- Have not married after the deceased worker's death (unless an exception applies).
- Received at least one-half of the support from the deceased worker at certain points in time.
- The applicant is the parent and would be eligible to share in the intestate personal property of the worker.
- The applicant must have legally adopted the insured worker before he or she turned 16 or
- The applicant must have become the deceased's stepparent by entering into marriage, before the deceased turned 16.
- Not be entitled to retirement insurance benefit equal to or exceeding the amount of the parent's original benefit.
- Filed proof of support within the required time limits.
