Procedure

Applications for registering transferring of vehicle ownership should be done within the same office area in 14 days, if in case of other jurisdiction, it's 30 days.

Apply Online - Uttar Pradesh Transfer Vehicle Ownership Online with Images

1. To transfer vehicle ownership, the applicant has to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways: Link to Portal
2. In the homepage, please scroll down to “Informational Services” and click on the “more” button in the “Citizen Guide” tab.
3. The applicant will be taken to the “Manual” page where all the available services will be listed.
4. Please click on the name of the required service and click on “Step by Step procedure” from the drop down menu.
5. The applicant will be taken to a new PDF page where the process for applying will be explained clearly.
6. Please follow the steps to complete the application.

Apply In-Person

1. To Transfer Vehicle Ownership in Uttar Pradesh the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which your area belongs to. Please look under the “Office Locations & Contacts” section for the appropriate office locations that you can approach.
2. Application Form 29, 30 and 28(in triplicate) is required. Application forms can be obtained from the following: Application Forms
3. The applicant should make sure they are eligible for applying by reading through the eligibility criteria that has been listed out under the “Eligibility” section of this page.
4. Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
5. Application forms can be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that should be completed and resented with appropriate fees.
6. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
7. If the authorities are satisfied with the documents that are provided the Vehicle Ownership will be Transferred.

Required Documents

For transfer of the ownership of Motor vehicle, the following documents are required:

1. Registration certificate.
2. Insurance Certificate
3. Aadhaar Card
4. N.O.C. of the vehicle, if registered out side U.P. - if required
5. Appropriate Fees.
6. Passport size photograph of Purchaser & seller.
7. Tax clearance certificate.
   
   

Transfer of ownership in case of death one has to apply with following documents:

1. Filled up forms
2. Death certificate in relation to the registered owner.
3. Certificate of the registration and the insurance.
4. Proof of succession.
5. Aadhaar Card
6. Passport size photo.
   
   

For vehicle purchased in public auction, one has to apply with the following documents

1. Filled up Application in Form No.32
2. Certificate of Registration and Insurance.
3. Certificate of order confirming the sale of vehicle in his favour by the person authorised to conduct the auction.
4. Certified copy of the order of the Government authorising the auction of the vehicle.
5. Appropriate Fees
6. Passport size photo of purchaser.
7. Aadhaar Card
