Apply Online

  1. To Apply for Victim Compensation Scheme, the applicant has to make the application via the National Legal Services Authority’s website link
  2. The applicant has to click the “Apply Legal Aid” menu and click “Victim Compensation”.
  3. The applicant has to enter the particulars in the application form.
  4. Next, the applicant has to click “Incident details” and enter all the details.
  5. Next, the applicant has to click “Case Details” and enter case details.
  6. Next, the applicant is to upload all the necessary documents which are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  7. After completing, review the application and click “Submit”.
  8. The fee for applying to the Victim Compensation Scheme is free of cost.
  9. After submitting, a record number or an application number will be displayed as an acknowledgment for future reference.
  10. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  11. Based on the nature of the application, the designated authority will grant the scheme amount.
  12. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a notification through call or SMS.
  13. The Processing time for the victim compensation scheme takes up to 3 – 4 months or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.


Apply In Person

  1. To Apply for Victim Compensation Scheme, the applicant has to approach the Legal Service Authority link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer. or it can be downloaded from the following link check page.no – 15
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. The fee for applying Victim Compensation Scheme is free of cost.
  8. The authorities will check the submitted application and documents to make sure that the required documents and details are in place. If the documents and details are in place, the application will be accepted.
  9. The received application details will be registered in the manual record or electronically using the computer. The applicant will be provided with a record number as an acknowledgment for future reference.
  10. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  11. Based on the outcome of the above report, and other internal processing, the designated authority will grant the scheme amount.
  12. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a notification through call or SMS.
  13. The Processing time for the victim compensation scheme takes up to 3 – 4 months or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

  • Every State Government in coordination with the Central Government shall prepare a scheme for providing funds for the purpose of compensation to the victim or his dependents who have suffered loss or injury as a result of the crime and who require rehabilitation.

Factors to be considered while awarding compensation
While deciding a matter, the State Legal Services Authority/District Legal Services Authority may take into consideration the following factors relating to the loss or injury suffered by the victim:

  • The gravity of the offense and severity of mental or physical harm or injury suffered by the victim
  • Expenditure incurred or likely to be incurred on the medical treatment for physical and/or mental health including counseling of the victim, funeral, traveling during investigation/ inquiry/ trial (other than diet money)
  • Loss of educational opportunity because of the offense, including absence from school/college due to mental trauma, bodily injury, medical treatment, investigation and trial of the offense, or any other reason.
  • Loss of employment as a result of the offense, including absence from place of employment due to mental trauma, bodily injury, medical treatment, investigation and trial of the offense, or any other reason.
  • The relationship of the victim to the offender.
  • Whether the abuse was a single isolated incidence or whether the abuse took place over some time.
  • Whether the victim became pregnant as a result of the offense, whether she had to undergo Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP)/ give birth to a child, including the rehabilitation needs of such child.
  • Whether the victim contracted a sexually transmitted disease (STD) as a result of the offense.
  • Whether the victim contracted human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) as a result of the offense.
  • Any disability suffered by the victim as a result of the offense;
  • The financial condition of the victim against whom the offense has been committed determines her need for rehabilitation and re-integration needs of the victim.
  • In case of death, the age of the deceased, her monthly income, number of dependents, life expectancy, future promotional/growth prospects, etc.
  • Or any other factor which the SLSA/DLSA may consider just and sufficient.
