Apply In-Person
- To apply for a Motor Cab (Taxi) Permit in Tamil Nadu the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which your area belongs to. Following link can provide you information related to the list of RTO office : RTO Office List
- Make sure you have completed application form Form-CCPA. Application forms can be obtained from the following link : Application Forms
- Also make sure you have all the necessary documents that has been listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant should make sure they are eligible for applying for the permit by reading through the eligibility criteria that has been listed out under the “Eligibility” section of this page.
- Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that should be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
- Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
Apply Online:
- To apply for taxi permit, the applicant has to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways: Link to Portal
- In the homepage, please scroll down to “Informational Services” and click on the “more” button in the “Citizen Guide” tab.
- The applicant will be taken to the “Manual” page where all the available services will be listed.
- Please click on the name of the required service and click on “Step by Step procedure” from the drop down menu.
- The applicant will be taken to a new PDF page where the process for applying will be explained clearly.
- Please follow the steps to complete the application.

- Tourist Motor Cab (Tourist Taxi) Permit means a document issued by a Transport Committee authorizing the use of a transport vehicle, in our case Motor cab as an private carrier / public carrier
- the business of renting of motor cabs to persons desiring to drive either by themselves or through drivers need to get the Tourist Motor Cab (Tourist Taxi) Permit
- Based on the capacity of the vehicle the number of passenger eligible to board varies as 4 passenger + 1 driver, 7 passenger + 1 driver etc.
- Contract Carriage Permit is the most common type of permit granted for transport vehicle for the purpose applied for (Public transport / transport under contract)

- It is advisable to go to the Regional Transport Officer / State Transport Authority between 9:00am to 5:00pm.
- FC (for clearance) is a process meant for reviewing the condition of the vehicle by the RTO authorities
