Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. The respective “Fair Price Shops-FPS” / ration shop will announce the issue of the application form for the new ration card. The respective zonal office of civil supplies and consumer protection office also conducts special camps for the issue of family card to the transgender. The applicant shall approach these offices and find out the option for getting a ration card for transgender. If the service is availed, then apply for the family card.
2. Contact link1 please select the respective district name under “DISTRICT NAME” to get a list of taluka. Please select the respective taluka under “TALUKA” for list of shop code. Please select the respective shop code under “SHOP CODE” for detailed contact information AND link2
3. Go to the respective office and obtain the application form to apply for a ration card. The applicants are advised to get the latest eligibility updates from the authorities.
4. Download the application form online link
5. Irrespective of the announcements for the new ration cards and special camps, the applicant shall also visit the respective public distribution office for their area on any working day to consult about how to apply for the new ration card.
6. Fill all the necessary mandatory information in the application as appropriate, please mention or select the transgender/others option for the gender/sex section as appropriate and sign at appropriate places.
7. Do not fill in any wrong information, otherwise the officer of the department will reject the application form.
8. Attach all the required documents as per the “Required Documents” section of this page and apply to the concerned authority. Please pay the fee/charges if any and don’t forget to take the receipt. Please refer to the “Fees” section of this page for more details.
9. On accepting the application, the authority or the clerk will check the application details and documents. If all are in place, the application will be accepted and an acknowledgement slip with a serial number will be issued. Please keep it safe for future reference.
10. Applicant will be informed of the probable date of getting approval for the issuance of the ration card.
11. ”SMS” triggered update on application status will be sent to the applicant’s mobile. Please keep track of the notification.
12. The submitted application will be processed by the department. A designated authority (supply officer) will verify the submitted documents and inspect the area of the applicant to clarify the applicant’s details.
13. Based on the outcome of the above-mentioned steps and other internal processing, the designated issuing authority will make a decision on issuance of the family card.
14. The status, viz. Approval or Rejection will be conveyed to the applicant through an “SMS” or through applicable norms.
15. If approved, the ration card will be hand-delivered or sent through post to the address mentioned while applying or issued as per the applicable norms within 60 days or as per the advised timeline.

Apply Online

2. In the new page, please use the “Apply for a new electronic card” option provided on the right part of the screen under “ELECTRONIC CARD SERVICES” to reach the “Apply for a new electronic card” page.
3. Please make sure that the “Application for a new electronic card” is selected. Please enter the mandatory details as per the page prompt for family head and address. Please use the “Add member” button to add family members.
4. Once the “Add member” button is selected, a tabular information with the details of the family head information just provided above will be displayed. Here, please select transgender under “DENDER” and fill the other details as appropriate.
5. Upload the photo and other documents as applicable. Please process the gas connection section as applicable. Please click the checkbox for “The details given above…” confirmation and then hit “register” button to get a message for successful submission of online application with a reference number. Please save it for future reference.
6. ”SMS” triggered update on application status will be sent to the applicant’s mobile. Please keep track of the notification.
7. The applicant shall visit the online portal and use the “Status of Electronic Card Application” option provided on the right part of the screen under “ELECTRONIC CARD SERVICES” to check the status of the application status.
8. The submitted application will be processed by the department. A designated authority (supply officer) will verify the submitted documents and inspect the area of the applicant to clarify the applicant’s details.
9. Based on the outcome of the above-mentioned steps and other internal processing, the designated issuing authority will take a decision on issuance of the family card.

To Apply Through eSevai Centres

1. Applicant shall go to the respective “eSevai” centre.
2. Following link can provide you information related to nearest eSevai Centres link please fill the prompts using the dropdown list under “District” and “Taluk” for respective contact details.
3. Please visit the centre and consult with the kiosk operator for your requirement.
4. If the operator issues an application form, then collect it and pay the requisite fee. Please complete the application form.
5. Now, submit the completed application along with the required documents as per the “Required Documents” section of this page. It is advised to take the documents in original to the kiosk for scanning purposes.
6. The operator will process the application online. On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement. The applicant will also get a transaction number as a text message on their registered mobile number.
7. Applicant has to make necessary payment as centre operator quotes and don’t forget to take the receipt.
8. This application will be forwarded to the respective department for further processing.
9. ”SMS” triggered update on application status will be sent to the applicant’s mobile. Please keep track of the notification.

Eligibility

• Transgender is eligible to apply with a valid “Certificate of identity”.
• The applicant and his/her family must be Indian citizens and should be residents of the state.
• The applicant or his family members must not possess any family card in any other State in India (If they had one, it has to be withdrawn).
• The applicant and members of the family must be close relatives.
• If you are newly married and have your name in your family ration card, you and your spouse should get name deletion certificates (removing names from your respective family cards).

Fees

• Fee information and other charges can be obtained directly from the department office while applying.

Validity

• The ration cards are usually valid for a lifetime and will be renewed in 5 years or based on the announcement.

Instructions

• Application should be filled up in black ink.
• Please mention the period of stay in the present address.
• Incomplete application will be rejected.
• Do not submit fake documents as proof to get the ration card.
• Avoid spelling mistakes while filling the application form.
• If it comes to notice of the department at a later date that particulars given by an applicant are either wrong or contrary to truth, the family card issued will be cancelled and action will be pursued against the applicant.

Need for the Document

• To protect the transgender rights and interests and to facilitate their access to different government schemes, the government initiated the issue of family cards under the “Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS)”.
• For implementation of the “Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS)”, ration Card is being issued to all the heads of families, with details about family members included in the card. Based on their economic condition, people can buy goods like food grains, sugar and kerosene with the help of their ration cards.
• Ration card is essential to apply for passport, PAN card or a domicile certificate or to even get the name registered for electoral rolls to get a Voter ID.
