Procedure

If you have lost your Driving License

1. If you have lost you driving license, as a first step please go to the local police station and file an FIR and bring a copy of it to the RTO office.
2. Download and fill up the appropriate application form from LLD the from the RTO website.
3. Attach two passport size photos with paper clip.
4. Submit the application form along with the documents to one of the counter.
5. After your application is verified and appropriate fees are paid the duplicate driver license will be provided.
   
   

If you are looking to replace a driving license

1. Take the old or damaged driving license along with you to the RTO office.

Apply Online - Maharashtra Apply for duplicate driver license online with Images

1. To apply for duplicate driver license, the applicant has to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways: Link to Portal
2. In the homepage, please scroll down to “Informational Services” and click on the “more” button in the “Citizen Guide” tab.
3. The applicant will be taken to the “Manual” page where all the available services will be listed.
4. Please click on the name of the required service and click on “Step by Step procedure” from the drop down menu.
5. The applicant will be taken to a new PDF page where the process for applying will be explained clearly.
6. Please follow the steps to complete the application.

Apply In-Person

1. To apply for Duplicate Driver License in Maharashtra the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which your area belongs to. Following link can provide you information related to the list of RTO office: link
2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer. Or the applicant can download the application form from the following link link
3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
4. Make sure that the applicant has to attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. #If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
9. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference, it contains the application summary and contact details of the person to be contacted.
10. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
11. The processing time for this procedure takes up to 10 - 15 days.

Apply Online (Through Parivahan Portal)

1. To Obtain Duplicate Driver License in Maharashtra, the applicant can make the application online via the following link link
2. The applicant has to click “Drivers/ Learners License” and select the respective state from the drop-down menu.
3. On the next tab, the applicant has to click “Apply for Duplicate Driver License” and read the instructions and click “Continue”
4. Next the applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
5. Make sure that the applicant has to upload all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
6. Review the application and click “Submit”
7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
8. An acknowledgment receipt will be displayed. Please save it for future reference, it contains the application summary and contact details of the person to be contacted.
9. Next the applicant should book the slot and visit the office on the respective date.
10. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.

Apply Online (Through Aaplesarkar Portal)

1. To apply for Duplicate Driver License, the applicant can make the application via Aaplesarkar Portal by using the following link link
2. The applicant has to enter the user ID and password and click “Login Now. If the applicant doesn’t have an account the applicant can click on “Register Now” and register an account.
3. Then the applicant has to click the “Transport” menu and select “apply for duplicate Driver License” and read the instruction and click “Apply”.
4. Next Select Registration – Form, fill out the online form, and submit.
5. The applicant will get the application Id and the application screen will be closed.
6. Open the application submitting application id and see the status of the application and the instruction given on the right side of the screen.
7. If Status is uploaded document, then click upload the documents on right side instructions.
8. By Clicking on the documents which want to upload browse will appear and upload all the required documents with the above same procedure.
9. Then Click upload document at the bottom and see the status again which will show for payment.
10. Click on pay the fees on the right-side button and choose the option of payment and make payment.
11. Check the status it will show "under scrutiny" which means your application is on the desk for scrutiny check the status regularly, either it is "approved” or "rejected”
12. If rejected check your mail and follow the instruction given in the mail and read the instructions.
13. If you see the status "completed” and then book the slot and visit the office on the respective date.

Apply Through Mobile App

1. To apply for Duplicate Driver License, the applicant can make the application via RTS Maharashtra app link
2. After installing the app, click on “Getting Started” and “select language” to start the application.
3. Then the applicant has to click the “Transport” menu and select “apply for duplicate Driver License” and read the instruction and click “Apply”.
4. Next the applicant has to enter the user ID and password and click “Login Now. If the applicant doesn’t have an account the applicant can click on “Register Now” and register an account.

Validity

A Driving License for a private vehicle is valid up to a period of 20 yrs or an age of 50 yrs whichever is experienced earlier. But, a commercial Driving License is valid up to three years.

Instructions

One can apply for a duplicate driving license with the concerned authorities when he/she has lost the original driving license, when the license is been torn, mutilated or destroyed or when it is been stolen away. You should never apply for a duplicate driving license when you have the original one with you in good condition as it is illegal to do so.

The holder of the driving license will have to apply for a duplicate driving license. He/she will have to be present in person at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) or at the unit office to apply for the same. It is mandatory to carry your ID proof along with you. Atleast one of the ID proof should have your photo in it. No one else on your behalf can apply for a duplicate driving license.

It is always advised to apply for a duplicate driving license immediately your original is been lost or damaged. If you exceed a time period of six months from the date of losing your license, then issuance of a duplicate license in your case will have to be approved by the Head Quarter of Transport Department.

Need for the Document

A driver's license is a legal document issued by the state. It expresses a persons capability to operate a motorized vehicle, such as a motorcycle, car, truck or a bus, on a public roadway. Laws relating to the issuance of licenses vary between jurisdictions. No person shall drive a motor vehicle in any public place unless he holds an effective Driving License issued by a licensing Authority authorizing him to drive vehicle of that particular category.

Driving a vehicle without a proper license can lead to imposing of fines or imprisonment if caught red handed, hence it is always safer to keep your driving license along with you in good condition.

Duplicate Driving License

A duplicate driving license is nothing but a fresh driving license issued on the request of the card holder stating that the original license is been stolen, lost or is been damaged.
