Next of Kin means the closest living blood relative or relatives. This certificate is required to prove that the applicant has a blood relation with that died person legally.
Apply In-Person:
- In order to apply for Next of Kin Certificate, the applicant has to approach their concerned revenue department office.
- Please go to their respective Village Officer office.

Here select “Directory” menu OR “DIRECTORY > Revenue Officers” OR “ABOUT DISTRICT > Who’s Who” OR “ABOUT DISTRICT > ADMINISTRATIVE SETUP > Wards and Panchayats” OR “DIRECTORY > PUBLICUTILITIES > Municipalities” as appropriate for the contact details.
- Go to the respective office. Consult with the designated authority about the applying procedure for this certificate. Collect the application form or write on a plain A4 sheet as advised.
- The application for Next of Kin(s) Certificate shall be submitted in standard format by the next of Kin(s) of the deceased person.
- Complete the application form. Attach the entire required document as per our “Required Documents” section and submit it to the designated receiving authority.
- After receiving the application, authorities will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place the application will be accepted with applicable fees as appropriate.
- Authorities will make entries about this application in the manual record or electronically using computer.
- Acknowledgement receipt will be given against every form received. So, collect it and please keep it safe for future reference.
- Applicant will be informed of the probable date of collecting the certificate.
- Designated authority will forward the application to the concerned designate authority for his report.
- The designated authority will verify the applicant’s details. A report will be created after verifying the details of the family members of the deceased person through field verification.
- This report will be sent back to the issuing authority.
- Based on the outcome of the above report and other internal processing the issuing authority will make a decision.
- The status, viz. Approval or Rejection if any will be conveyed to the applicant through an SMS.
- If approved, the certificate will be hand delivered or sent through post to the address mentioned while applying or issued as per applicable norms.
- Note :
- Certificate will be despatched or handed over directly as per the request made while applying by the applicant. Mostly handover in office will be in practice to get counter signature from the applicant for the delivered certificate.
- Applicant may be asked to apply with the specific format as advised by the respective benefit providing government departments

Apply Online:
- To Apply for Next of Kin Certificate, the applicant has to make the application online via the following link link
- Scroll down and click “Service Details” and select “Caste Certificate” the applicant doesn’t have an account, then the applicant can click the “Register now” to create a new one.
- Register on this website e-district website by clicking on Portal user registration.
- The page will redirect to the next page. Enter the details; Select the login name and password. The applicant has to select the password recovery question and answer for this and enter the shown case sensitive characters. #Click on validate and register.
- Now, the applicant can log in into the portal using the username and password.
- To avail certificate services in e-district Kerala, the applicant has to do a one-time registration.
- This can be done by clicking the menu ‘one-time registration’ after status on “transaction history” on the left tab. After receiving a “certificate issued” SMS on the mobile number login into e-District and take a print out. #After filling all the details. Click the duplicate button.
- This will find out if the applicant has already registered through Akshaya Centers or so and enable them to pick details. After a successful duplicate check, the ‘submit’ button will be allowed.
- Click the submit button to register. The ‘Edit Registration’ option lets the applicant edit the registered details.
- Click Applicant registration the link will go to the next page. Click on duplicate; the system will automatically check the duplicate application. Click on “Submit”.
- Once the applicant has registered the application, At first, the applicant needs to enter the e-District register number and select the certificate type as Relationship Certificate and then select the certificate purpose.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form.
- Then applicant has to upload the required documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page (If required).
- Review the application and click submit.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested.
- When the applicant makes a successful payment, they will be redirected to the receipt page. They can take a print out of this receipt and application.
- The applicant can check the status of “transaction history” on the left tab. After receiving a “certificate issued” SMS on the mobile number login into eDistrict and take a print out.
Apply through Centres:
- To Apply for next of kin Certificate, the applicant has to approach nearby Common Service Center (CSC) Link. Also, the applicant can approach nearby Akshaya service centre link
- Note: The applicant has to select their state, district and block from the drop-down menu or the applicant can click on their respective district to find nearby center.
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer. Or the applicant has to provide their details to the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form.
- The applicant has to attach or provide the required documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page (If required).
- Submit the completed application, document and applicable fees to the centre staff.
- Application submitted will be processed and receipt with application number will be issued.
- The applicant is informed through SMS at various stages i.e., Advance intimation about date of visit of the official to his place of residence for verification of his application, Approval/Rejection of his application.
